Carrier compressor delays start after a few cycles
I have a Carrier model 561CJ030-E condenser that starts fine when it is first turned on. After one or two cycles, on a call for cooling the condenser fan comes on but the compressor usually delays coming on for 5-15 minutes. What can cause this?

Usually if there is a built in time delay the compressor and fan still start together so in this case it seems to be a compressor start problem only.

There are a few possibilitys or in this case guesses.
Weak compressor run capacitor would be the first item.
Adding a start relay and capacitor would be my second.

The basic problem is the fact that you probably do not have an Amprobe meter to test the current draw and you may not even have a standard test meter for voltage checks. That is why I mentioned guessing since other necessary info is not available do to lack of tools.
