    1992 honda civic distributor problems
I own a 1992 Civic and I was told I would need a distributor because the mechanic could hear a slight "chirping". I'm not sure if I am hearing the same noise but I hear something briefly when I drive a few blocks in cold weather. It disappears after a few blocks and it only happens in colder temps. I have noticed this the past 2-3 winters but nothing in the warmer seasons. I just spent $2500 on other repairs and now this crops up. I'm not sure if I should replace the part. I have an upcoming appt and will discuss this with the service dept but I need to have some background info first. I appreciate any insight.

Honda distributors are problematic and tend to last between 50,000 and 100,000 miles. It's very common for the bearings to fail, since the grease only lasts so long. It would've been better if they had splash lubrication. Since you have spent so much on the car, consider picking up a used distributor from you local salvage yard and installing it yourself:

One AMHD member recently bought one from salvage for $55. My advice, if you go new, is to only install a genuine Honda distributor housing--aftermarket igniters and coils are fine, however.
