Unit will not start without disconnecting power then will not shut off at set temp. Replaced thermostat-no help. LED blinks 8x,, PC board looks to have gotten real hot around 2 resistors on left side below a relay. Any ideas what the blink-code means??

Blink codes should be on the inside of the access door. We can look further.

If you can see physical sings of overheating on the control board, you are most likely going to need a new board. If the baord has melted or burnt in any areas, flash code may very well be giving a false code.
