Planning for a new baby with a baby
Hi I am rachelle, I had posted about my current pregnancy that we had though about ending but decided to keep the baby and also parent the baby... after weeks of talking about it and debating... we are wondering how we teach out 7 month old daughter about the baby. I know she is young and maynot understand, we have a lot of time before this baby arrives but I would like to be prepared since right now she is the center of everyone's attetion. I have a feeling she will be very jealous because she is jealouse of me and her father even holding other babies... so how do we prepare her for the change at such a young age?

Get her involved with your pregnancy. I had the same issue, just that my little girl was older and I let her rub my tummy and talk to the baby all the time!

I also did finger painting and encouraged her to rub lotion on my tummy. When the baby moved and there was a foot, hand or butt sticking out... I told her what it was. She was pretty amused.

I also bought big sister books and chose certain televised programs geared towards being big brothers or sisters... like the Bernstein Bears and stuff like that.

Buying baby dolls and playing baby with her is great. When baby came she had her baby and I had mine! It isn't easy though... there are some major ruff patches for her to pass but she will adjust after baby is here... it could take up to 6 months. Now my daughter shares, plays and alerts me when she thinks he is doing something wrong with my son... he loves her so much and I just really emphasize it a lot.

Best wishes for you and your new baby!

Thanks so much! I will try and see where it gets us she is so young and I am really worried about how this baby will effect her. Iam sure she will be fine but I hope its not to hard. She's only 7 months and knows she's a Princess and is such a drama queen its going to be a battle

Haha, mine is a Princess and I actually themed her room out that way! I also let her help me set up the nursery for my baby boy... there are lot's of fun things. It will be really hard the first 3 months... she may want NOTHING to do with the new baby OR you!! That's why daddy is there :)... She could also be so into it!

After about 3 months it will get easier and when your new baby becomes more interactive and playful... your daughter will have a new playmate... eventually you will notice your daughter taking some responsibility over him/her... watching him/her from tattle telling, to redirecting him/her herself, to playing and encouraging crawling... oh... at 6 - 8 months you, your daughter and your new baby will have SOOO MUCH FUN!! It was tough and there where some serious ruff patches with adjustment, terrible twos, potty training, soother removal and dressing of self but I did try to make her a big girl before the baby came so she could feel like a big girl and a big sister! You aren't there... you will have your hands very, very full!

Best wishes!! Do you know if you have a boy or a girl?

No we don't know if it's a boy or girl yet I am only 14 weeks, and our daughters nursery is also done in princess' I know I am going to have my hands full I am just so worried that she is going to think that she has to be a big girl when she's so young for the baby. She's only going to be a year when the baby arrives.

Yes, she is a baby, mine turned 2 so at that age you can be proactive on "being a big girl" you can't really make her "feel" like a big girl because she won't really understand what is going on. She will figure out that she is bigger then the new baby of course but still needs you just as much as the new baby.

Your hands are full, I had it much easier having a 2 year old because I potty trained, she dresses herself, she talks, walks, plays with toys independently but even at 2... still a baby. I don't think you will have too many issues on adjustment since she is so little but playing those fun games and reading big sister books help!
