I have a Yard Machine by MTD with a 14.5 B&S OHV. The mower was parked the beginning of last summer and I got it this past weekend. I have replaced the battery and have tried to crank it. The starter engages but will only turn the motor about 1/4 turn then quits. The solenoid clicks but nothing happens. I have loosened the starter and it spins. Also, I have taken out the plug and I can manually turn the motor so I do not think it would be anything internal. Does this sound like a starter problem? Thanks for any help you can give. :confused:

First check your valve adjustment. The YouTube video should help (also, be sure engine is tight to frame for good ground.)

Thanks. It did help with adjusting the valves. Now the starter just sits and spins and the gear won't engage. Any ideas?

Check battery first; hooked up backwards.
Check pinion next; stipped or jammed down.
