What is a copper air chamber used for? Is it needed?
An air chamber is a device that you put on your water lines to absorb the shock when you turn the water off rapidly.
Water does not compress so when you turn a faucet off fast the water traveling through the pipes slams into the faucet valve like a metal rod hitting the end of a line, this causes viberations in your plumbing, the noise you hear is called "Water Hammer".
You may have some water hammer and you may not, this will determine if you need an air chamber or not.
If you need more information let me know.
Would you please post again to this site and give a discription of your situation. And if possible please send some pictures.
There are smaller commercially available ones that are more than a hollow tube.
