I have goodman variable speed air handler and a 14 seer 410a unit, along with a Honeywell programmable 2 stage thermostat. The fan ramps up and down continuously when the temperature is near the set point. I've had it looked at a couple times now and nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions or adjustments that can be done to get this air handler working right?
Shouldn't the air handler run in a low speed when it close to the set point and high when under a high load?

Post model numbers of both, especially of tstat. A link to the tsat manual would be ideal for starters.

Also describe where your thermostat is located such as hall, inside wall, outside wall, proximity to windows, direct sun and registers.

The air handler is the Goodman AEPF1830 which is the 1.5-2.5 ton R410A unit. It's located in the basement and only used for AC, we have water baseboard heat. The compressor is the Goodman 2 ton SSX14024. After looking at wiring diagrams on the Alpine site, my system also has Y1 also hooked up to the air handler and thermostat, they show it not attached for AC only systems. Should this be disconnected?

The thermostat is the Honeywell vision pro TH8320U1008. It's located on the inside hall wall. Direct sun is not able to shine on it. The ac vents are blowing away from it and into other rooms. There are no AC vents in the hall where it's located.

Make a note of the previous values of the tstat parameters:

Verify that 0170, system type is 1; Cool only

Use the system test mode and check the cooling and fan as well as stage 2 and report back.

If it's two speed, you should probably be using Rc, Y and Y2; C is optional.

What's the value of param 0530 adaptive recovery?

OK the thermostat was setup wrong. It was set to 2 stage but my compressor is only a single stage. I set 170 to "1". I thought I had a 2 stage but after looking though the systems, I would have had to buy the 16 seer system with the two stage compressor

The system check worked.

The adaptive was set to "on", I turned it off but no luck.

I even disconnected the Y2 but the system still ramps up and down while the AC is running

Make sure that the following is set to off

0530 is off

0650 is off

0660 is off

It seems the thermostat is butting heads with the air handler controls

Yes all of those are off. I noticed during the ramping up and down the thermostat isn't clicking any relays on and off so now I'm suspecting that it's with the air handler.

I'll go through the wiring diagrams for air handler tonight, maybe the installer miswired something there? I'm also going to pull the filter as make sure that's not clogged.

I would also like to decrease the CFM a little, because it's louder than I would like and it cools plenty fast on a 90 degree day. If I were to do this do I risk freezing up the coil?

Actually the speeds should be set using a meter for that purpose. If the blower speed is not adjusted correctly it can cause problems. Usually a quality installer will adjust the fan speeds for both heat and cool after the install is complete to assure proper operation. The new style furnaces are not user friendly when it comes to adjustments.
