94 Civic Dies at road speed
I find the information posted here quite informative regarding Honda's. I have a 94 Honda that has an on and off problem. About one and a half months ago my 1.5 started to miss at about 55 mph and died. The check engine light came on and it sounded like a backfire and came on again. It went about half a mile then died and would not start. The check engine light would go out and the fuel pump would run; but, not start. After about 15 minutes the car started and ran perfect. The temp that day was about 85 and humid; I replaced the fuel filter and ran perfect for one month. About a week ago after a warm day short drive, six miles, I stopped the car for 15 minutes and restarted it and on my way. I ran the car in higher rpms it shut down again and the check engine light came on. I left it in gear and opened up on the gas again somewhat of a backfire and it ran for about 200 feet then stalled out. I left it sit for 5 minutes again started perfect and ran. I drove it six miles and at 55 it died again waited 5 minutes started ran perfect. I can bring up the rpm's and let it drop back after about 5 minutes it will stall and check engine light on. If I open the gas feed to the floor it will puff out the air cleaner and start. If not done the car will have to set and cool down 5 plus minutes. I made one trip of 30 mi no miss no stops no lights. Today the car was used short time 10 minutes then I made a quick stop. I then restarted and within a mile miss check light and dead. I tried to restart and didn't open the gas had to let cool 15 minutes. The car is a 94 Civic 5 sp with 1.5 engine tuned with good NGK's JDM header, open air intake and opened converter car has 172,000 mi. Any ideas Thanks Wayne
