    1989 Honda Civic almost stalling
    1989 Honda Civic 170,000 miles.

Driving to work the car began slowing down, not much power and the wipers were moving slower and slower. I don't think I ever actually stalled. I drifted over to the shoulder and while still moving, pump the gas. It buckled and then kicked in again and I limped to work. But it feels like an electrical issue and not fuel.

I recently had a problem where the ignition switch was dead when the key was in the "run" position. I cleaned the contacts on the switch but didn't replace it. The slowing down of the wipers has me confused.

    Thanks

. Remove and fully charge the battery. AutoZone will do this for free.

. Clean battery terminals, cable connections, and main ground. Ensure they are tight.

. Using a multi-meter, check for 12+ volts at the battery. With the engine idling, check for 14 to 15 volts at the battery--this will indicate the voltage regulator is working properly.

. Replace the Ignition Control Module (ICM) and coil, if the problem persists:

. Check/replace the ignition switch for wear, pitting, and melting:

. Replace the fuel filter, if it hasn't been changed in 60,000 miles or 4 years:
