    Compressor fan Motor?
My compressor stopped and needed to be reset. I pushed the reset button on the outside of the unit and the compressor came on but the fan did not.I am assuming without the fan motor it overheated and needed to be reset. I pushed the fan blade with a screw driver to spin the motor and it came on. Later the thermostat turned off the air conditioning unit and the compressor did the same thing. Compressor came on but no compressor fan. I have not yet tried to nudge the fan blade again to kick start it. Can anyone tell me what they think this might be? Is it the fan motor or should I look at some electrical components first.I have some basic knowledge of air conditioning mechanics. Please help.

It is not uncommon for AC fan motors to wear out and seize up. You can replace the fan motor. But try this. With the power off, rotate the fan by hand. Does it turn hard? It should rotate freely -- even spinning freely when you let go of it. If it doesn't turn feely, the bearing has seized and the motor needs to be replaced. If it's wobbly, it also needs to be replaced. I'd also suggest replacing the starting capacitor at the same time.
