I am wiring a finished basement. The problem is the main panel is in the Gar 200a service. This is abour 65 ' away from the finished basment. I was going to run 2 20 amp breakers for the basement room.. it will have lites, frig, entert. Center etc.
My question is I want to run a 50 amp breaker with #8 wire the 65' into a sub panel and then the 3 20 amp breakers or should I use # 6 wire.. or even run a double 30 with #10 into a sub panel and then the 20's..

Any input would be great.. thank you in advance..

#8 copper wire THHN / 75Deg C rated insulation for a 50 amp circuit at 70 feet is fine.


If you use #6 wire, then you can use a 60 or 70 amp circuit breaker as the feeder.

A larger feeder/subpanel will gve you more capacity n the future.

I think the 30 amp feeder/subpanel is cutting to close. Because the distance is so long, will be easier for you to run the #8 or # 6 cable once and be done with it.
