We have a lamp post in our front yard that we find unsightly. I would like to remove it. The light fixture is fed by an underground conduit that climbs the post, and it is controlled by a switch in our front hall.

Removing the pole and conduit are simple enough, but how do I "terminate" this branch of the circuit? That is to say, what do I do with the ends of the wires that were connected to the light fixture?

Does this mean that you are completely getting rid of all the wire and no Light on new post?

If so at the switch, disconnect the jumper wire completely that feeds that switch and get rid of switch. Get another switch plate to cover that switch that was removed. Or a Dummy plug to blank out that single pole switch.

To clean this up pull the conduit wire completely.

Or to terminate at the pole down size the conduit and install an approved exterior junction mounted on the conduit and wire nut and tape off there.

If it were me I would down size that conduit and make an outside GFI outlet in that location and keep that on the switch. If that line is already on a GFI then a regular out let can be used there. Mark it GFI under the enclosed Exterior approved Junction/outlet box.
