I've called in a drainage company to replace drains that were blocked by roots. Drains were laid about 1880. The main drain that was blocked is the rest bend. After the rest bend there was a vent pipe (about 6 feet to surface) where you can see water draining through a U bend on its way to road drain (about 15 feet from road). The repair men say this vent is not necessary and are replacing it with a straight connection and doing away with the vent. Is this OK ? I wonder why it was placed there in the first place if it was not necessary.
