Did E. R. Braithwaite marry Gillian as suggested in "To Sir, with love"? Did he marry at all?

As I recall - I was an English major - in the book there is much more detail about the relationship than there is in the movie (although I haven't seen the movie in years). I don't know if the question of marriage is ever directly addressed, although I rather doubt that a marriage happened.

Thank you for your help, Judy, I have since been able to get in touch with a friend of E.R. B's who has confirmed your opinion: he did not marry Gillian. He didn't get married at all! Yes, the book certainly has a lot more about his relationship with Gillian, which is why I was looking for further information about the relationship. Thanks again, I do appreciate it.
