I have a natural gas furnace that will kick on and I can hear the burners light, but it will not cirrculate the air ( I can turn the fan on using my thermostat) Any Ideas on what I need to do? Thanks in advance

After reading some more posts I found that the error code that this heater has is an ignition failure, I can see the heating element heat up and the system tries this three times and then gives me this error. What would be my next troubleshooting task? Thanks again for any help.

There isn't a model or brandname on this system, I just bought this house in may, the only other thing that I do know is its an 80+ system. Sorry and thanks.

Since no info is available the best guess would be a defective fan and limit control OR the control that activates the blower in the heat mode. There can be various types of switches that can accomplish this and in some units the circuit board controls the blower also.

Shouldn't the furnace still light the gas even if the blower doesn't kick on? When I turn the fan on my thermostat to on the blower does kick on. Is it possible that it is the gas valve?

Sorry about that, The burners do not light. Thanks for all the info too.

Problems of this nature can be brand and model specific. By law there has to be a model number and brand name on the equipment. Otherwise it is just a very bad guessing game.

I think the problem is the flame sensor So hvac1000 why don't you advise him on how to handle this problem, if you agree that it might be the flame sensor.

If that is correct, I think that I see were its located, and if I'm not mistaken from the other posts on this site I need to pull it out and clean it with steel wool or copper wool. I am also trying to get someone to come and look at it, if I can't resolve it with your guys help. Thanks again to all that are helping.

Sounds like he has a handle on the flame sensor cleaning.

Problem found by HVAC Tech. the upper limit switch. But he didn't have one. Are these made to trip by a certain temp? Is it possible to swap the upper and lower temp? There again I am no expert to HVAC. Thanks for all the great advice.

These parts are available. What are all the part numbers on the switch and the temp numbers. Also give a description.

Thank you very much for your help. I have found the part and ordered it from a online vendor the total cost was about 16.50. Again thanks to all that have helped.

Strange, usually when the high limit trips, it will cause the blower to come on, but you say the blower will never come on unless you turn it on at the stat? I do believe we will be hearing more about your problem.

What other problems do you think that I might have? The part I'm replacing is a goodman

That is a roll out switch it is a safety device. If the new one trips you have another problem.

Does the flame ever actually come on at all, even for a few seconds? Or do you get no flame ever.

Its hard to tell what the tech meant by upper limit. I would think he meant high limit. Could have meant rollout switch. Could be a limit on the blower squirall cage. I guess, for the cheap part advised by the tech, I would start there, hope it takes care of your problems. Just let us know how it turns out.
