When installing a stand alone shower drain, is the drain attached to the cement, the floor board, or something else and how high does it need to be placed so I can make it even with the tiles?

Are you building a custom tile shower or installing a manufactured shower base and enclosure? I ask because the drains will be different. You speak of both a cement floor and then a "floor board". Please explain. In short I need more details before I can answer. Is the drainage and water in place? Plese explain what you wish to accomplish. Regards, tom

This is a custom shower. There is a floor board with cement board on top of the floor board. Drainage and water is in place (an old tub was there before). Should the drain be attached to the wood floor board? The cement board? And how high?

Not so fast. You will have to install a flange type shower drain,(see image) before anything's done. This will install on the cement board and a shower pan will install to that. Since I don't even know what material the trap and raiser are This is about as much as I can tell you. Do you need instructions on how to form a shower pan and build a custom tile shower?
