We do not have a chimney cap. So we put a tarp over it and for over a year thought that was the problem, until after this last hurricane. We came home after evacuating and the carpet was wet. My husband thinks that because one of the bands that was holding the tarp down broke that, that is why water came in. He thinks that the water blew in under the tarp. I am confused and do not know what to do. We used to think that maybe it was coming under the slab, but we have had people come out to do water tests, and they said no. Now, we wonder again??? I am going to have my husband run the hose down the chimney again to see if that is where it is coming in from. Do you think we just need a chimney cap? Who do we call to come and check on this problem? Roofer, contractor???
