Is small forward a good position for me?
Ok I'm 16 years old and I'm about to tryout for my new school's basketball team because I recently moved. At my previous school I was on the team both years I went there. I even made varsity my sophomore year. Im not exactly sure what to tell people when they ask what position I play however because I used to alternate a lot because we didn't have a very big team.

Im 5'4 and ill just say I'm a thicker girl. Not obese or anything lol but just a little thicker than some skinny minnies. I'm working on it though. But anywayz I was wondering if I would be a good small forward because height is always an issue with me. But I'm not that fast either so that worries me a lot also.

So would I be a good small forward? And how can I increase my speed?

When you try out you have to consider what positions are available first. The coach may already have another player to fill the small forward position and so that might hurt your chances at making that slot... unless you prove to be better.

You should really try to settle for what position you are comfortable with first but if making the team requires you to play a different position, be willing to work on some new skills.

Lastly, you could always practice doing sprints and suicides to build speed. Set little goals for yourself. If it takes you a certain number of seconds to run the 40 yard dash, see if you can try beating your time by 1/4 or 1/2 of seconds. Keep working at it like that to feel encouraged that you are making progress.
