    Cannot connect to internet!
I just found this website and it looks very reliable! So I am hoping for the best! :)

We have bought a Netgear Rangemax Next Wireless-N Router that we bought to connect all of our computers together. We have one desktop and two laptops. Our desktop and one laptop connect fine, but the Dell Inspiran 1100 will not connect to the internet! It says that it has an "excellent" connection but when we try to open Internet Explorer or another internet browser it does not work. We also bought a Netgear Rangemax Next Wireless Notebook Adapter which we installed, but it still does not work. We have tried almost everything we can think of! Please, if you know anything that could help!

Few things you can check that weren't mentioned.

First do a dnsflush to clear out any stale records
type "ipconfig /flushdns" in a command prompy without the quotes

    1) check that the laptop is getting an IP address and is not a 169.x.x.x address
    2) see if you can ping the routers IP address.
    2) see if you can ping 72.14.207.99 (google.com)
    3) see if you can ping google.com
    ------
    If all of those pass
Then its IE, try resetting all the settings and clearing the cache back to defaults and disable any toolbars. Also you should use Firefox, Its much securer and faster then IE.

If your not getting an IPaddress Then make sure you are set to DHCP and not static. If that is set correctley then follow the steps under If you can ping the IP but not the url

If your getting a 169.x.x.x address
Then it could be that you have wireless security on the router that the on board wireless can not do. Try lowering it to standard WEP or None*

*None should ONLY be used for testing, WEP should be used at a minimum

If you can ping the IP but not the url
Then you have a possible corruption in your winsocks. You can try these if this is so

    1) (Resetting TCP/IP)
    - Go to your network control panel and disable your network /wireless card
    - Go to a command prompt and type "netsh interface ip reset c:\reset.log" without the quotes.
    - re-enable your network and try to get an IP address
    - Try pining a url
    - if that doesn't work continue on

    2) (Resetting Winsock try 1) FOR XP SP1 or No SP ONLY
    - Download WinsockXPFix.exe
    - Run it and click "Fix" and then "Yes" on the next box
    - try pining a url
    - if that fails continue

    3) (Resetting Winsock) XP SP 1+
    - Disable your network/wireless card again
    - - For XP SP1 or earlier
    - - - open an command prompt and type "netsh winsock reset"
    - - For XP SP2 or later
    - - - open an command prompt and type "netsh winsock reset catalog"
    - reboot after it finishes.
    - enable your network card again and try to get an IP
    - try pining a url
    - if that fails continue

    4) (Reinstall TCP/IP)
    - Open regedit
    - Browse to following keys, right-click each key, and then click Delete:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Winsock

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Winsock2

    - When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
    - Restart the computer after you delete the Winsock keys.

    - Go to your network/wireless card properties
    - Click Install.
    - Click Protocol, and then click Add.
    - Click Have Disk.
    - Type C:\Windows\inf, and then click OK.
    - On the list of available protocols, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click OK.
    - Restart the computer.
    - try pining a url
    - if that fails continue

    5) if you do not have SP3 then you can try installing the next SP from what you have or go all the way to 3.

Hope this helps you out, Please let me know if it doesn't
