How old is he, 14 years older if you are 18 is not a real big deal in age, if he is over 50, it is not uncommom to have some performance issues, have you discussed this with him. Plus if he is drinking heavy, many men can not perform at all after they get very drunk.

Your biggest problem right now is alcoholism, not sex.

You BOTH need to get into a 12 step program.

Maybe when you're both yourselves again, you can learn to communicate your needs to each other.

However, when you're both altered, no honest communication is going on.

PS--alcohol is a depressant. It's not going to help you feel less unhappy about the situation.
