    Vanguard V twin Hunting engine
    Hi all,
I have a B&S vanguard 14hp ohv engine in my lawn mower. It has developed a problem of the engine hunting when driving and won't run unless the choke is out a little. The governor is popping up and down like a mad one, Any suggestions before it goes into the shop for an expensive repair.

    Thanks in Advance

    Stephen:)

    Remove and clean the carb.

I agree with Mowerman but also check for worn throttle shaft bushings. If they are worn they will allow air into the carb. A quick check for this is to try and wiggle the throttle shaft, it should not move. Also spraying some carb clean around the shaft while the engine is running and see if you notice any response in the engine. Most kits include the new bushings.

Try turnig on the mower without choke.. . may be there is moew gas in chamber that needs to come out as a white smoke... pull and push ckoke till u can than turn off the mower and than restart it with choke down... not pulled at all will less than half speed of engine.., if it kicks on than... it will let go of white smoke and than run fine... I have 17 hp unit and it woked with it.. a temp solution but some time all it needs is to flush extra fuel out of it...
