The advantage of making an appointment is you can request an inventory, photos and statement of any damage to the car before it gets towed, in the presence of either the lender's rep or the tow person. Sometimes the car gets damaged in transit, the CD player is "suddenly" missing, which ultimately costs you money so it's probably a good idea to protect yourself.
