Going from 3 phase to single phase
I have a three phase welder but only single phase 220 power. Is there any way I can hook it up and get it to work? With out costing allot of money?

You would need both a transformer and a 240 source capable of suppling the watts the welder uses. A single phase welder could be cheaper.

You could buy or build a rotary phase converter. This would convert your 220v single phase to 3-phase. If you need higher voltage you would add a transformer.

A rotary phase converter is a 3-phase motor that is run on single phase current. The third leg of this motor acts as a generator providing current 120 degrees out of phase from the other two. The only other parts are a starting capacitor and two run caps. The idler motor must have at least the same HP as the 3-phase equipment you intend to run (more if the equipment is hard start.)

With a used or surplus motor, a DIY rotary phase converter can be very economical. Google will lead you to plans to build your own. To buy one cheap, start with eBay.

What do you mean, you want a 3 phase converter to only power a transformer and a capacitor?

Use more words to describe your situation and exactly what your trying to accomplish.

Don't know if this guy can help:
Run 3 phase motors on single phase with homemade transformer!
