:confused: I have a goodman packaged, forced air, 3 ton, 208/230v outside unit. I believe it's about 4 years old and 92,000 BTU. The problem started with getting only cool air no matter what it was set on and the fan worked fine. I replaced the thermostat with a honeywell programmable. I have 6 wires coming out the wall to the stat. I connected the yellow and the green to the stats 'y and g'. Connected the white wire to the stats 'w'. Then the red to the stats 'rh' which was jumped to the stats 'rc'. I taped off the brown and blue. After everything was set and turned on-there was nothing. With the fan in either on or auto it would not come on. No matter what the setting there was no cool air or no heat. With everything double checked including the circuit breaker nothing worked. I tried removing the jumper from rh to rc and had the red wire connected to only the rh. Still nothing. I manually tripped the breaker to the goodman unit, which is 30 amp, and reset it. It appears to be fine as it always stays on. The problem would seem to be a simple one but one I'm not seeing. I'm assuming it's something within the ac/heating unit itself but have no idea. I really appreciate any response as it's getting hard to stay warm with just these small portable heaters. I thank you very much for any and all responses... mankinddad

Sounds to me like the reversing valves are staying in the cooling mode. Does the system have a diagram showing if the valves are energized for heating or cooling? The thermostat must be wired or programed right. The valves must work.

If your unit is a heat pump the thermostat will not work. Here is the diagram for your thermostat.

Many thanks for the help to hvac1000 and labman. Specifically though for hvac1000- I'm assuming now that I must have a heat pump. Being somewhat ignorant in this matter, I admit I really don't know what the difference would be with a heat pump. I read that a heat pump sits on legs but thought that any unit that size would sit on legs or something. Is there a way of knowing for sure if it is a heat pump. I have no literature for the unit. It came with the house when I bought the house. Without going to any more trouble do you know what model thermostat I would now buy for the goodman unit. The model # is pgb036100-1b. When I looked this number up I could not find it for any goodman product.

We really need to know just what you have to help. Your original post sounded like a heat pump. If it isn't, go to the furnace and make sure the wires you connected are connected to the proper terminals there. See if the blue and brown are connected to anything. Most furnace/A/C units need a 4 wire cable. Often there are unused wires. The cable should go into the furnace or air handler near where the filters are. Have you ever changed them?

I finally got this running okay. Turns out it's a gas pack (packaged) unit. I replaced the fuse inside the unit which really didn't look too bad, turned the elec. Power back on as well as the stats heat setting. It tried to ignite over and over but never made it until, I believe it's called a rollout switch or button, was pressed, resetting it and it operated fine ever since. This entire
