I want to replace my bathroom receptacle with switch (for overhead lite) with a gfi w/switch. My source hot line comes in with a 2 wire line (black/white). The line in the wall has a 3 wire line (black/white/red). What is the proper way to wire the line side of the gfi and the load side? I want the receptacle to be hot when the lite swich is in the off position.

Where does this 3 wire cable go and what are the functions of the black and red wire? Does it feed other receptacles or is it a 3 way light switch? Power to the light or switch would connect to the black feed wire as well as the line terminal of the GFI. Any feed through GFI outlets would connect to the load terminal of the GFI outlet.

The black and red feed other receptacles-not a 3 way.
When I look at the gfi w/switch I see on the lower part where it says "line" and has 2 push-in holes on the brass side and 2 on the silver side. What do I connect there?
Above that I see "load" which has 1 screw connection on each the brass and silver side. What do I connect there?

Connect the incoming black to the brass line side of the GFI. Anything you connect to the brass load terminals will be GFI protected too. Anything you don't want the GFI protection, connect to the other line terminal. I the switch doesn't have a built in jumper, it will also need to be connected to the line brass terminal.

O.K. I've got that so far but now I see that the receptacle has 2 black leads coming out of it above the load connections which are marked "switch leads". I assume 1 would go to the brass load but where does the other go?

If the light is over the tub or shower, it needs to be GFI too. Check the 2 leads and brass load terminal with a test light or ohmmeter and I think they all 3 will be connected. To make the light GFI, connect one of them to one of the switch terminals. Cap the other. You may want to check this against any directions that came with the device.
