Briggs & Stratton 10 hp lawn mower engine?
Just wondering if the flywheel should be in contact with the starter at all times as it appears to be! It has eaten the flywheel gear off! Stupid nylon gear! Is there any after market alloy type replacement?

    Numbers off engine plate

No, the flywheel should not be in contact with the starter bendix gear at all times. The nylon gear can be replaced with another nylon gear. You may need to lube the shaft to see if the old gear will get to where it will go up and down. If the center shaft is messed up on the corkscrews, then replace the whole starter. If the shaft appears o.k. replace the bendix gear (nylon) and cap.
