15 amp switch and plugs on 20 amp service
    Hi
The electrical contractor on our house put in all 20 amp circuits which I like but while replacing a switch in one noticed he put in all 15 amp rated plugs and switches which I don't like. Is this OK and according to code , I live in SC.
    Thanks
    Mike

15 amp receptacles on a 20 amp circuit is fine and allowed the national code. The nature of the blasde configurtaion of a 15 receptacle will onlu allow a 15 amp device to be plugged in, thereby limiting the amount of curent to 15 amps on the 20 amp circuit.

The issue is with the switches. A 20 amp load can easily be applied to the circuit and not have any limiting means. So a 15 amp switch may have more load on it that it can safely handle.

What does the local inspector say about this? Has a Certificate of Occupancy Inspection been done yet?
