I've read through most of the questions but don't see this exact question. One of the toilets in the house doesn't fill enough - the bowl only fills about 1/2 of what it should. The other toilet is fine. I mention the other toilet because 'as the crow flies' they are in proximity. I think they are hooked up to the same vent.

Here is what I have checked so far -
Flushing is fine
No noise
Fill tube is OK
Handle is in place
Flapper works properly
The float (?) works OK
Water comes to about 1" below the fill tube
Tried to check the inlet holes under the rim - cannot get in a position to see them so I don't know how many there are.

This might be the problem but can someone tell me how many (approximately) there should be? I have the coat hanger and have gone up in some of them. Here is something else - one of the inlet holes is straight up and down. In another one the coat hanger must go in at an angle.

I'm trying to tell you everything I can think of. I have a septic tank so I did not try muriatic acid but I did pour some white vinegar down the fill tube. Don't know how much to use or how to get it to stay long enough to unclog anything that might be clogged.

In case this seems like a girly question - IT IS! I'm on my own as far as home repairs so I would appreciate ANY help.

DUH - a mirror! Ok, I figured out that part but I'd still like to know if these inlets are supposed to be straight or slanted.

Oh no - it isn't the inlets! I saw what they look like and my hanger went in and around with no problem. What now?

Slanted. The little hose that goes in the fill tube, how much water flow?

You might benefit from a new ballcock assembly, like a fluidmaster. They come in a kit, not hard to replace, good instructions.

Stew finally nailed it. There's a little tube that runs from the top of the ballcock to the white overflow tube. This tube meters water down to the bowl as the tank fills. If the little tube's kinked or not connected it would give you the symptoms you describe. Good luck, Tom

Thank you. The tube is unobstructed and water flows through it with no problem. Just not enough water flows through it - I think. Here is something I observed. The flapper closes before the flush is completely finished. The water goes on down but I'm wondering if this is contributing to the not full condition after the flush. If I hold the handle down enough to barely lift the flapper as the bowl is filling I can get enough water in the tank but I have to do that every time.

New Ballcock and Flapper. Comes in a kit, replace 'em both.

Thanks, Stew. The flapper is fairly new but not the ballcock. I will do as you suggest.

"The flapper closes before the flush is completely finished." this could very well be part of the problem. If the flush is cut short that means less water enters the ballcock that meters water to the bowl. So, less water goes into the bowl giving you a lower bowl level. Try adjusting the flapper chain to 1/4 inch of play when it's seated and if you didn't cut the ring off the flapper when you installed it, do it now. Good luck, Tom
