alkalineangel
Sep 10, 2007, 01:27 PM
Lol... I don't know whether its cool anywhere but here and on talk like a pirate day... lol... but it sure is fun. I went home speaking it and my hubby just chimed right in... lol.. everyone should grab hold of their inner pirate every once and while.. lol.

Good morning ladies. CBW I hope you are feeling better today.

Woo Hoo, clinicals start this week, so the schedule is down to only 2 days a week on campus.

curlybenswife
Sep 11, 2007, 05:07 AM
Don't really know how I'm feeling to be honest I just need a couple of days rest no running around but we all know that will never happen.

So where will you be going for clinicals??

J_9
Sep 11, 2007, 05:37 AM
I'll be going all over West Tennessee for clinicals. One week at one hospital, another week at another hospital. I believe there are 5 different hospitals this semester. I'll be doing labor and delivery for the next two weeks, then NICU, postpartum care, health departments, Cystic Fibrosis centers... you name it, I got to do it. LOL

I finally will not be bathing geriatric patients :D .

Then add 3 hours of studying for every hour in class. I need to study fetal circulation today. Just taking a break while having breakfast.

Oh, I'm learning about heart problems like Millie's on Wednesday. :p

alkalineangel
Sep 11, 2007, 05:47 AM
YAY J! Sounds fun. Hope you are all wonderful. Im stressed to the max at work, no one wants my work.. lol... figures..

Sep 11, 2007, 05:52 AM
Al, when do you start the new job? Or is this it?

alkalineangel
Sep 11, 2007, 05:58 AM
No I'm still at the old place... I leave here on the 21st, and start the new one on the 25th. Im stressed because they won't hire someone to replace me and no one wants to take up my work... im thinking of just levaing my cube exactly as it is on the 21, and letting them mess with it. I tried... lol..

Emland
Sep 11, 2007, 06:04 AM

Wow, I am sitting here studying how fertilization occurs and found the most interesting online movie. It is actually amazing.

The show through a microscope EVERYTHING from ejaculation to ovulation and conception. It's REAL, OMG real I tell you. This is too cool.

Now I am going to to watch what happens during the first two weeks after conception. I mean I have seen this before, but never quite this real!

If any of you want to check it out, here is the link.

Wow. Its not computer animated or anything? I can't watch at work, but will defintely watchi it tonight...

J_9
Sep 11, 2007, 09:54 AM
No, it's not animated at all. Well, only 5 or 10 seconds has been animated.

I'm off to watch the next portion called "The Embryo Takes Shape"

It is utterly fascinating!!

alkalineangel
Sep 11, 2007, 09:55 AM
I'm excited...

J_9
Sep 11, 2007, 09:57 AM
Oh, just wait!!

Just know you have something to look forward to this afternoon. I can't stress enough how fascinating it is. Here I was studying fetal circulation and how the fetal heart works before, during, and after birth, and I got caught up in this film.

It's so coooool!!

templelane
Sep 11, 2007, 10:04 AM
J_9 if you like stuff like that have you seen this yet?

Studio Daily Video Player (http://aimediaserver.com/studiodaily/videoplayer/?src=harvard/harvard.swf&width=640&height=520)

It's the inner workings of the cell, a slightly smaller scale than the other films so it is CGI but it's fantastic, play it with the sound on because the soundtrack is really good too, fits perfectly.

J_9
Sep 11, 2007, 10:08 AM
Wow, that is TOOOOO COOOOL

I love it! The soundtrack is just awesome with it too! Thanks.

I love stuff like this. I have to learn it for school, and this really helps me learn it better.

templelane
Sep 11, 2007, 10:09 AM
I think it is amazing how the foetal heart goes through all the stages of evolution of the heart running through the fish, frog then turtle like appearances. That's where the congenital hole in the heart derives from is it not? Isn't it wear the heart doesn't seal up properly to become the familiar four chambers?

I love that animation, brings what is usually a very abstract subject to life

J_9
Sep 11, 2007, 10:38 AM
Actually the fetal heart flows opposite of ours until negative pressure occurs during birth. That is when the foramen ovale closes to become the ligamentum venosum.

If the foramen oval does not close completely then we have the congenital anomalies. I can't get too deep into that yet. That lecture is on Wednesday I believe, or possibly next Monday.

alkalineangel

I've been suffering from that for 3 weeks now. I can totally appreciate where you are coming from Em.

Frogs? Blenders? Rum Runners?

After last night I could use a Rum Runner, but don't think I'll be too good in the hospital this afternoon if I indulge.

Tuscany

No problem Tuscany!! I am not an advocate of breeding when we have so many lost and lonely dogs in shelters who need good homes. Let's take care of the dogs we have before breeding any more.

When we got Lou (purebreed basset hound), a neighbor offered her basset as a stud and said they would make beautiful puppies together. Hubby ran to the phone, called the vet, and got her fixed within the week. LOL

Yes, that is true... remember though some people haven't been in your shoes and that is why they JUST DON'T KNOW! I know many people that have gone through with an abortion, some for health reasons, some not...
They taught me a great lesson... ALL of them..

I have a lot of respect for all you ladies out there who know who you are who have dealt with these issues and have to listen to some of the stupidity out on these threads daily... you're all in my heart.

Start if you wish to talk to me in that tone of voice I suggest you do it in pm, you may have an opinion but still I stand by my point you haven't actually been in those shoes watching from the side line isn't the same as feeling it that I can assure you I'm not going to bring my personal experience into it because its none of anyone's business and it's a long time buried.

I've gotten to the point where I have accepted that it will not happen without medical intervention. And medical intervention would cost as much as a down payment on a house, so... probably not going to happen anytime soon.
