star3114
Oct 3, 2007, 05:59 PM
I did the candle wax thing when I was a kid. Then when you get older... they call it a parrafin dip... go figure.

shatteredsoul
Oct 3, 2007, 06:00 PM
That is true.. I didn't even think about that. Now I know why I love it when they peel that parrafin wax dip off, I have only had it done a couple of times but.. yeah it feels so cool. Ok so I am not SO weird.

star3114
Oct 3, 2007, 06:03 PM
Not really... we were just creative kids who liked to experience and feel stuff. Did your mom ever take you to the store and say "Don't touch anything"... I was a toucher...

shatteredsoul
Oct 3, 2007, 06:05 PM
ALWAYS, in fact I still touch everything at stores and half the time I don't even buy it.. just like feeling things. OK that sounded corny but you know what I mean.

star3114
Oct 3, 2007, 06:14 PM
Yah I know. I love going to fabric stores and feeling the different textures of the fabrics. I buy fabrics for crafts according to feel. It means that you are a kinethestic learner too. You learn best by doing. Interesting huh?

I am totally at odds here about my son's wedding gift.

I can't afford much, but was thinking of something along the lines of a trash can filled with household cleaners, things they could use daily. Hangars, trash bags, soap, laundry soap, brooms, mops, bath soap, towels, etc.

Mom said I should give something that he would remember like maybe a crock pot filled with spices, etc.

I'm trying to help them save money by getting them things they would use every day, but mom thinks something a little more memorable.

Your advice?

firmbeliever
Oct 4, 2007, 03:55 PM
Practicality will win anyday with me... :)

CaptainRich
Oct 4, 2007, 04:02 PM
Actually, at first I thought, "Is she mad at them?!?!" But then I thought that sounds like a very good idea... for now. Something more later, after they've gotten established and your school is behind you? I know a couple that has three crockpots and they don't cook!
What are their interests?
Perhaps a magazine prescription?
What is their housing? Apartment or house?

J_9
Oct 4, 2007, 05:00 PM
He lives in an apartment, she will be moving in after the wedding.

Their interests right now are work and saving money. They will not even be taking a honeymoon as they insist on paying for the wedding themselves. And I thought my budget was tight.

They have found a photographer who will donate pics and time, the preacher is donating the church, the ladies of the church are cooking for the reception, etc. They will NOT accept any money.

So, I thought that one of the best things I could give would be things they would use around the house that others just don't think of...

Band-aids, tylenol, laundry soap, trash bags, bath soap, cleaning supplies, cotton balls, and much much more.

You know, the things that you don't think you need until you are ready to use them.

I could easily spend upwards of a few hundred dollars just getting this all together. But my Mom thinks I should get something more memorable. To me this is memorable since she did not have a shower and they could use all the money they make.

Maybe I am just being too practical.

firmbeliever
Oct 4, 2007, 05:06 PM
Add a bit of bath salts and scented candles... J

Synnen
Oct 4, 2007, 05:08 PM
Want a suggestion that's both?

Get them a good first aid kit that you put together yourself, and put it in a pretty box that you can get at like Cost Plus World Market or Pier One or something. Something they could have OUT in their bathroom--believe me, space is always a consideration in an apartment!

Then, when they've used up all the first aid supplies, they'll still have a really nice box that they can use for whatever.

If you get one made of wood, you may be able to have their names burned into the bottom, with their wedding date, too.

The stuff ina first aid kit is EXPENSIVE when you're trying to save--bandaids just aren't cheap! Things like burn cream, NyQuil, Sudafed, aspirin, cortisone cream, bandaids, bandages, a thermometer, an ice pack--it's all stuff I wished for when we were just starting.

I may do it for someone specials wedding..

CaptainRich
Oct 4, 2007, 05:11 PM
Nah! Practical and reasonable is good. Chances are they will appreciate those things for a long time and nobody else will even know how much...
For rainy nights home, maybe a movie or two, or BlockBuster gift card?

firmbeliever
Oct 4, 2007, 05:16 PM
Synn,J,
Would this do?

J_9
Oct 4, 2007, 05:25 PM
I am just so lost as to what to do. I mean this is my KID!! I gave birth to him 21 years earlier to the DAY that I began delivering babies.

But I am practical. Kayla is not having a shower, if she were I would disregard my idea for something different.

Maybe since Steven and I compete at who can make the best spaghetti sauce, I may buy him a soup pot with spices, tomato sauce, etc.

Hell, I don't know. Maybe I'm just too tired, I've been up since 2 am. Maybe I am thinking too hard, but I can't some up with anything!!

star3114

I got my sister a laundry basket filled with food, dish towels, etc. She still talks about it... in a good way.

The spice idea is great. You can get Tone's spices for 99 cents a thing. Also, what about the makings to his fav recipe when he was a kid... choc chip cookies, etc? That way it is meaningful, practical and reasonably priced.

star3114
Oct 4, 2007, 05:44 PM
Also include a hand written recipe with the ingredients.

star3114
Oct 4, 2007, 05:48 PM
You know, something I gave for a wedding gift was a collection of grandma's recipes. I printed it up and put it in a neat binder. It included the recipes that everyone loved, but no one knew how to make it. Practical is good. Heck, I still have crystal from my weddding 8 yrs ago that I never used. I have two boys that like to wrestle... therefore the crystal is a no go. Sure crystal is a nice gift, but how much can you truly enjoy it if you are planning on a family?

startover22
Oct 4, 2007, 06:51 PM
J, I like the practical idea... I think it is wonderful, it shows you know they are fighting hard to make things work! We have all been there and know it can be hard to even go get laundry soap when we needed it. That is special that you thought about it. I also like the wooden box or decorative box... You want me to make them a cross stitch with heir names and wedding date on it.. I could. If I stay off this dang computer I could get it done in a few days then send it. I already have the frames and plenty of crap to get it done. Just a thought. That way you could have something memorable for them too if that is the route you decide to take!

Girlfriend, I would LOVE it if you could do that, but time is of the essence right now. We are down to the wire.

I will feel the "need"... I will need names and a date, I swear I can do it in a crunch... I am good under certain pressures LOL... I will talk with you tomorrow... you will have it by Monday or Tuesday if that is good for you... Or if you want to give it to them when they come over for their first dinner while being married, you can give it to them with your famous sauce... and pasta dinner.. Goll... get some dang sleep and I will too...

Hello anyone else there??
I am home and my son is sick. I am not sure if I should take him to the doctor, he is running a fever and says his throat hurts. I bet if I don't he will get worse tonight!
Well, since its so quiet around here, I am going to sit on the couch with Bryce and cuddle with him. I should be doing that anyway.

Have a great weekend everybody!

Start - yep, tummy's growing and be-bopping along, feeling decent. Still on watch from my contractions but they have been moderate lately, so that's good. Just been playing around the house sitting around enjoying my sunny days. Connor is loving having me home and Im loving being here with him, although I think at times he gets a little lonesome for his friends... :( will have to find a playgroup or something. Now Im just staying busy picking up the odds and ends we need for Jack here and there.

Personal Lubricants Reviewed: The Top Five Lubricants on the Market
Written by Robert Kaplan

There are hundreds of personal lubricants on the market today and many of them are made from the same ingredients. Choosing the best lubricant can be difficult, because many of the products advertised are indistinguishable from the others.

There are hundreds of personal lubricants on the market today and many of them are made from the same ingredients. Choosing the best lubricant can be difficult, because many of the products advertised are indistinguishable from the others.

Based on a study reviewing over 50 products, we have compiled a comprehensive list of the top five best personal lubricants on the market.

The study examined the ingredients, customer satisfaction and price of each product, while also comparing the manufacturer's claims to the results of the product they sold.

Each product was evaluated, then graded based on criteria including: texture, longevity, comfort, smoothness and overall satisfaction reported by actual customers. These results were compiled into the category “customer satisfaction” and graded on a scale of one to five. We then chose the top five products to compile for our list.

Kinesthetic Learning is a teaching and learning style in which learning takes place by the student actually carrying out a physical activity, rather than listening to a lecture or merely watching a demonstration. Students with this predominant learning style are natural discovery learners; they have realizations through doing, as opposed to having thought first before initiating action.

JoeCanada76
Oct 8, 2007, 07:42 AM
Thank you. I also find that thanksgiving is celebrated completely different here then in the united states? Am I wrong?

In the states it is a big huge weekend, and there are parades and huge outside celebrations along with family time. Here we do not have any of that. It is just family celebrations, people gathering and having a dinner.

I know what you mean. It would make it a lot easier to keep track of holidays especially considering half my family is american and all the celebrations and times are different. Why oh why.

For us, it's a gathering of family, with a HUGE meal, and football, and making cookies and candy and stuff. When I was little, we'd go to my great-gramma's, and she lived in the country. We used to hope for snow so we could go sledding down her hill!

I do like eating late at night, making a turkey sandwich and more mashed potatoes and stuffing mmmmmmm... I am hungry now!!

Xoxoxo I wish I could say something to make it better. Does it help that we think you are terrific and intelligent and awesome and that job isn't worth your time and now you can go on to something more fulfilling??

2. having a shiny surface or coating; "glazed fabrics"; "glazed doughnuts" [syn: glazed] [ant: unglazed]
3. made smooth and bright by or as if by rubbing; reflecting a sheen or glow; "bright silver candlesticks"; "a burnished brass knocker"; "she brushed her hair until it fell in lustrous auburn waves"; "rows of shining glasses"; "shiny black patents" [syn: bright]

LOL... I was attacked by the Kirby vacuum sales people today. I think I really made the salesman feel bad after he made me cry.. lol... I told them from the get go that they could come in and shampoo my couch but I wasn't going to buy their machine... they did it anyway and then when I repeatedly gave me "deals" and I said no... he finally had me too upset to talk. I was late on dinner and only had 30 mninutes to cook and get ready for work... the lady was there for 2 hours and the man told me 30 minutes tops... she kept cleaning. I had to ask them to leave. LOL... I don't feel bad at all... I was honest from the start... they took a chance that I may be turned.. but I'm too poor and have too many upcoming issues to afford a 1800 dollar vaccuum for a house with no carpets. Lol. The machine was pretty rad though ill give them that.

Got to take Rae for any eye appointment, then (I wish I wasn't) taking the kids to the mall. Johnny needs new pants, he's all grown out of his long pants and shorts aren't allowed at school come Monday when he goes back from fall break.

How about you?

It seems from afar to be for yak-a-holics, but it's also quite funny at times!

Oh that's OK. But thanks so much for the invitation. Nice place to hang I must say that. But I'm not much for chit chat. I don't even like telephones never mind cell phones. Please... all... have a great time!

It really all depends Star. I can't get into specifics due to HIPAA laws, but it depends on the drugs introduced to the baby. Marijuana and cocaine they usually get away with. Benzos, Barbies, Amphs, they are usually taken away from the baby and placed in rehab.

Mothers can be arrested on child endangerment charges, etc. Every circumstance is different.

Many of these babies stay in the NICU for MONTHS, we had one who had been in there for 5 months and was still recovering from addiction.

Hi, my name is Ramon and I love to collect old jazz albums, peaceful walks along the shore line and rolling nakid in buttered Chinese noodles.

I usually hate Monday, cause I usually have an exam. This week I hate Wednesday. Fall "break" for me today and tomorrow. Will be in study group the next 2 days. Should pass my test with flying colors.

J, I'll cross my finger for you!

My doctor was on vacation for a week and I was hoping that I'd get my cytology results today. I waited until 11:30 to give him time to see patients and have his mail checked by his staff. I called and asked if my results were in... was told that he has not read his mail yet and that I should call back tomorrow. I was upset and told them the he can call me tomorrow - I just hate to be put on hold and listen to that crappy music. I've been his patient for over 20 years and see a change in his working attitude. I just don't want to take the time and effort to switch doctors now at this stage.

I need some hugs...

Hugs to you Chery,

Doctors can be awful creatures at times but the thing that annoys me even more is that sometimes it is not even the doctor but the darn secretary that could be the -----.

I hope you get the results soon and you should not have to chase after the doctor for them. Hugs to you and hope all is well with you and the tests.

Thanks, gals...

Awe.. CBW.. where did you find those beautiful kittens. I could look at that picture all day. It makes me feel so warm.

My cat, Larry is over 15 yrs and he's not the healthies either. He has been acting 'depressed' lately and it just breaks my heart to think that he's almost at the end of his journey too. Especially after my daughter's cat Simba died a month ago. He's in our backyard and I can 'visit' him often.

This time of the year has always been 'lucky' for me until the past two years.. I hope things change for the better soom.

I already know the test results, it's just that I need the 'black and white' version for the Health Insurance Company here to process documents I need upgrade my handicapped status which should also financially benefit me.

Thank's for letting me 'sound off' here.

You're right, that staff is a bit lazy. They knew before they went on vacation that I was waiting for the results. I guess it's not as important to them as it is for me.
