Hey, AH sweetie. I am doing okay. Mom is having a hard time right now. I am actually feeling so strong, this is really liberating me. I know it sounds terrible, but sometimes in grief comes strength. Dad would have been proud.

The visitation is Sunday from 6-8 and the funeral is Monday morning at 11.

Allheart

God, I am so proud of you J.

And love you even more. Give Mom a hug from all of us. And know it does make sense.

I once read a quote that said something like, if we never experienced difficult times, how would we ever know the strength we possess.

Pretty powerful quote and you are proving it to be so true.

So many hugs for you.

Hugs to you too Laura. Hope you are getting good rest.

Much love to both of you.

You know... it is weird.

When my dad died and people brought food they brought things like brownies, pasta, meat trays- I live in Western NY.

But when my husband's brother died people brought fried chicken, donuts, more fried chicken, and nachos. He lived in VA...

Amazing the differences in the food just in an 8 hour drive...

I am not sure why I bring this up... but it was a discussion among my mom, my husband, and I when we were in VA.

curlybenswife

Any time someone passed in my family - the amount of food is crazy. We had everything under the sun. We had the ladies of the church come in and serve the food after the memorial service. I mean, it is crazy. Appreciated, but crazy.
After my aunt passed, we had the normal set up and then one of my mom's friends sent a honeybaked ham with everything you would need - just for us. It was so good.
Funny, the things you remember. I probably couldn't tell you much about her service - but I remember that ham.
Is that sad or what!

I heard there was a new BC pill that will stop your period. Anyone know anything about that? Sounds like a dream.

NowWhat
Jun 14, 2007, 07:19 AM
I think I have heard of that - but what is the trade off. No period, but you are going to gain A lot of weight. Some months, I think that might be a fair trade off!

I have got to pack for vacation. We will be gone for 3 weeks! It sounds good, but with gas prices here and all the stuff I have to anticipate and pack for...

ARG!

I wish I could just pack flip flops and tank tops! But, I am in a wedding right in the middle of that 3 weeks - so I have to pack all this stuff for that.

Again, ARG!

J_9
Jun 14, 2007, 07:21 AM
I have heard of that one. I think it is called Yaz, but I am not sure. I will be learning plenty of it next semester as that semester concentrates on gynecology and obstetrics. I understand I will have one complete test on birth control.

They just went down here at mom's to $3.09 a gallon

NowWhat
Jun 14, 2007, 11:04 AM
I haven't checked what it is here today. It got close to $4.00, but is going back down. Yesterday it was $2.99 for mid-grade. Which, according to the husband, is what I MUST put in my car.
Does it really make a difference? I guess it depends on who you ask.

J_9
Jun 14, 2007, 11:06 AM
Regular was $3.59 when we drove up here. Pretty darn expensive.

We used to put Ultimate and MidGrade in our car till we got the new car. The dealership, our mechanic, and the manual said to use regular, so we do.

NowWhat
Jun 14, 2007, 11:13 AM
According to the husband, he is the car expert...
A little thing like me couldn't possibly know what kind of gas to put in. So, I just do what I am told. :)

J_9
Jun 14, 2007, 11:14 AM
LOL, same here. My mechanic said not to use it, the car's manual said not to use it, my hubby said not to use it. So I don't LOL

NowWhat
Jun 14, 2007, 11:16 AM
I have never checked the manual. We have only had this one for about a month and a half. So, he is still in the "honeymoon" stage with it. He even showed me how to dry it off properly the other day when I washed it. I didn't know if I should laugh or punch him.

J_9
Jun 14, 2007, 11:19 AM
Oh, just laugh. I got the "how to dry the pretty new car the right way" speech too the other week before our trip.

Heaven forbid if there is a teeny tiny speck of dried up water on it. LOL

Synnen
Jun 14, 2007, 11:21 AM
As far as grades of fuel go... if it says to use mid-grade or premium, the only difference you're going to really get if you don't is that you won't get as good gas milage.

I have a 94 Lincoln that has to have premium... thank goodness my commute is only 2 miles!

NowWhat
Jun 14, 2007, 11:22 AM
I know. I have to give "the baby" a bath in the shade in order to reduce spots.
Plus, all the products I have to use to make it pretty, inside and out.

Don't get me wrong, I like doing it, but having someone over my shoulder giving instructions - drives me crazy.

J_9
Jun 14, 2007, 11:23 AM
LOL, Synn. According to my hubby, and he is a gunsmith not a mechanic so take it for what it is worth, high performance engines use premium. If our engine isn't high performance use regular.

This comes from a man who INSISTED that we use premium on our old car, and it recently died. LOL

We use nothing but regular now because the manual tells us to. LOL

LOL, we don't have any shade, so I have to wash, dry and pamper the "baby" in the evening.

Jun 14, 2007, 02:27 PM
Hey, NW, I'll tell you, it is the people here who have kept me going. You know AH (Allheart), Rubypitbull, Chippers, Laura of course, etc.

I have been trying to get mom to move closer to me, but she is quite adamant that she can't leave here, for many reasons.

There is NO possible way I can move closer due to school and hubby's job (his dad owns the business which will become ours when FIL passes).

I will keep working on it though, getting Mom there that is. She just HATES Tennessee. (Shhhh, don't tell anyone, but I don't blame her, LOL).

I am sorry J, has she told you that she will be ok? Are there any other kids close to her?
She has said she will be okay, but that is the nature of Mom, she doesn't let her emotions out.

The only other one here is my 32 year old brother who still lives at home and doesn't work. Sad story really.

Jun 14, 2007, 02:32 PM
Ohhhhh... You just be there for her when you can and it will all take it's course. I know you are a wonderful daughter. So glad to hear you have good support. I know the lovely people on this forum have helped me through too. (I am a little worried about chippers) I actually get the pleasure of living with (in separate homes of course) my husbands mother, father, uncle, grandma, and grandpa!! In September we will all be on 3.5 acres together and I am very nervous but know it is for the best. I hope she comes close to you. Sounds like the best plan... Hugs to you J..

NowWhat
Jun 14, 2007, 03:08 PM
You know, we are hanging out here in Ohio with no family really close. It is tough. No one wants to tell me anything because I am so far away and they don't want me to worry. So, I typically hear things way after they happen.
But, you have to do the best you can with what you have to work with. And it will work out the way it is supposed to.
If nothing else, having your brother at home - your mom won't be alone.
I could imagine it would be hard for her to leave - but her feelings are pretty raw (as are yours) right now - given time, she may change her mind.

NowWhat
Jun 15, 2007, 10:19 AM
Well, I feel the need to rant a little.
I told you guys yesterday that I am supposed to be going on a 3 week vacation -leaving tomorrow.
My husband just informed me that the plan that he had to pay for everything is not coming together.
So, we can't go. He is going to call his family and tell them we aren't coming. I still have to be in this wedding - so there is still that expense. I have to call my family and tell them we aren't coming - but we still have to pay for our part of the rental.

We were supposed to be leaving in less than 24 hours. How am I supposed to call everyone and say we can't come? He would like me to call my friend to say I can't be in the wedding, but that is a week away - how can I do that?
After the year we have had - I don't know how I am going to call my Mom and tell her this.
I am totally shocked.
Thanks for listening

Oh, NW, I am so sorry to hear you are not going on the vacation. I know you were looking forward to it. I really hate when things like that come unraveled at the last minute.

I was supposed to leave for home tonight but will not be able to get out until tomorrow. I have to fly standby so that I can fly cheap, really cheap, like $50, well, my plane in Houston is overbooked by 20, so 19 other people have a seat before me if others don't show up. I don't know anyone in Houston so I don't want to spend the night in an airport.

I will be leaving in the morning for a 12 hour flight, connections in Cleveland, Ohio, and Newark New Jersey, then finally home.

NW, rant all you want, that's what we are here for.
