Catching up on the old thread I see we are all in snow storms and blizzards. I sit here in a blizzard myself today wishing you all well.

With this new thread I hope it brings us warmth and safety in these weather conditions. As we again unite as friends in another thread you better all grab your cuddle partners. The snow is coming hard, its coming down fast and deep. What on earth can we discuss now to pass the time?

Adam and bear come keep me warm.
Someone keep an eye on Alty. She likes to cuddle with all the boys. ;)
Red, your getting married so stick with your man.
Stringer, awwww we know your only cuddle choice is Marta.
Oh Unky your old enough now so watch out. We will find you one.
JLo well you're a newlywed still. Enjoy!
Bella I might consider sharing adam, if he doesn't complain about that.

If I missed you then throw another log on the fire, grab me a beer and come on over!

Ok everyone here we are. Brrr... why am I out today. It's a storm and I am loving it. Supposed to get even worse as the day goes on. I want to go home and play outside. I remember doing that as a kid. My son would love it.

It quite nice here today.

Kind of sunny with a slight breeze, perfect for dog walking.

Except I've no intention of taking the hounds out again, took them out this morning, I thought hey, ill go for a run around the park and let the dogs off for a run... bad bad idea!

Josie, who is a springer and brendans dog has no respect for me at all, oh, she loves brendan, goes all gaga for him, the trollope.. do you think she would even listen to me... nope! Not a chance.

Its supposed to be even worse here as the day goes on. I was sure the boss would have told me to stay home. Not a chance. Little does he know I am leaving early.

My bunny cage was blown over! It's a 2 story condo almost and it blew over. My son was crying, but still had humor saying he was glad she wasn't white because at least we still could find her. What a kid.

I am surprised they closed my sons school. His is the last in the district to ever be closed. They try to delay it first. The fact they closed it shows to me this isn't good.

The bunny was safe. I may take her in for the night when I get home.

Sorry. The corners are all filled with snow drifts. We had thunder and lightning along with the blizzard last night. It's snowing to beat the band now, but with no wind. I don't hear any traffic at all on my street or on the main artery several houses away. No plows have gone past either (I was up all night listening for them).

Glad the bunny was safe.

They didn't really close our schools this time, but they did last week for a half inch of snow fall.

I could run circles around the people here in the south. It's 70 and they hear the word snow and the stores are sold out. But then again, most vehicles here are rear wheel drive.

Not too bad in southeast ontario by the lake. I got out at 0730 this morning, nothing was plowed or salted, four wheel drive is the way to go. Have a happy snowstorm !

Son has to fly from Nashville to Oregon today and back again, then drive home to Canada on Saturday. I just hope the conditions are good for him.

Potsdam is where I am at right now. That's the town I work in. I know crazy people on here and I shouldn't say that but whatever. I live about 9 miles from here. I grew up in Malone. I believe that borders the Adirondacks if I am not mistaken. I don't think its actually part of it. But still beautiful all the same. I have spent hours on end in Saranac and Lake Placid. Camped a lot that way.

Our storm here began during the night. High winds and bad snow. I thought they called for 8-16 inches. Its going to come in heavier as the day goes on so I am hearing. This is why I am hitting the high road soon.

Oh and yes SUNY Potsdam is here. Also Clarkson, St.Lawrence and SUNY Canton.

Hi all.

Just checking in.

I find it amusing that we Canadians seem to have better weather then you guys in the US. That's not the norm.

We're at 0C, that's 32F, at 9:20am. It's supposed to go up to 2C, do the math to figure out the F. ;)

Perfect snowman building weather, and we've got plenty of snow to do it with. :)

I agree WG, I use State Farm for home, car and other insurance and they (like some others) discount the overall pricing.

Also Adam when deliberating your price for home owners insurance possibly ask them what is the bottom line that you need for proper coverage as you may be paying for more coverage than you actually need.

88sunflower
Feb 3, 2011, 09:16 AM
Negotiating is so true adam. These days companies will go above and beyond to keep a client. I have seen it over and over when I worked at my bank. You will be fine. Your first step is to start talking. When we were doing our mortgage for our new home I remember our topic of escrow coming up. I know how that can stink sometimes. So I asked what happened if I changed my mind. You not tied to that it can be changed. Talk with your bank.

This may be positive thinking or not. But I guess with me its black or white. Either way you have to pay it right? Escrow or not. Either way you have to budget that in. You find a way and make it work. Don't lose your home. Don't give it up just yet. This is so minor. You will work it out and be fine.

adam_89
Feb 3, 2011, 09:23 AM
Thanks to everyone. You are making me feel better.

So far out of the insurance companies I look at they are cheaper on the home but more expensive on the auto part. I like my auto where it is, I think my best bet is to switch home insurance, I just don't know how it will put me behind even more than I am. I have never missed a mortgage payment or any payment that I have ever had and it worries me that something is going to go wrong.

88sunflower
Feb 3, 2011, 09:37 AM
You do your auto and home on the same insurance? Why not think about breaking them up? I get better rates this way. I am not a good driver. I am on my 4th license. I have a DWI and hate saying it. But there are still companies out there giving me great rates. I had been given good advice not to keep my home owners and auto on the same insurance. Check in to that.

Hey!! You weren't worried about me? I'm even closer to Chicago than he is! Because of the drifts, I can't see his house from my back porch any longer!

It took my son three hours to clear his driveway and sidewalk and front porch/porch steps yesterday afternoon using only a shovel. My husband and other son needed almost two hours to clear our driveway, etc. while using shovels and a snowblower. The village snowplows keep plowing snow in front of the drives, so there is continual shoveling of that.

We so want spring, but then there will be the melting and flooding...

What I understand there were over 150 cars stuck on Lake Shore Drive by the lake. I live in the suburbs west of Chicago now but for 4 years I lived at Lake Point Tower right on the Drive... I saw a photo of one with the driver door open. The wind was so bad, and the snow was blowing everywhere, every which way, with visibility down to nothing. All anyone who was outdoors Tuesday night cared about was getting to shelter. I'm guessing there is a good explanation for how the truck was left. I can think of several.

Why anyone would put it down in the fist place is a question... and why they couldn't take a moment to put it back up is another.

Having to abandon it I can understand... its why they put it down and didn't put it back up that made no sense at all.

I saw a photo of a bus too, with the door open and snow piled inside on the driver's seat and elsewhere. For the bus, I'm guessing the driver had better things to do getting his passengers to safety, and the last to leave the bus didn't know now to and didn't bother to (because the door was the last thing on his mind) shut the door.

The truck window may have been open in order to talk with a rescuer, and so anxious was the driver to get out of there, he didn't remember to/bother to close the window again. Same with the open truck door. Or if the door hadn't been closed hard enough, the nasty gale-force wind could have blown it open.

I don't buy the rush to get out thing... its not like they were in the river and the bus was sinking. But honestly... its not any more stupid than all the Busses left in New Orleans to be flooded while the people in charge ran for the hills in Katrina. I can understand the door thing with the wind being possible if it was a bus... but the widow didn't blow open. It was left open.

The picture I saw in the local paper didn't say it was a bus... but I'll take your words it was.

I saw photos of both a bus and a truck with doors open. The passengers in those vehicles had been stranded for more than eight hours with no food, bathroom facilities (maybe the bus had this), or even heat (once the fuel ran out and the engine died), and were hugely relieved to be rescued. The last thing on MY mind would have been, "Close the door behind you" (even though my mother said it constantly to us kids as I did to mine)

That's the first thing I would do... secure my possessions... it only takes a moment... and like I said... I live in a nice safe area. I wouldn't leave my vehicle unlocked... much less with the windows down.

Incidentally... I sat 10 hours in traffic in last weeks storm 7 hours of that was the last 5 miles to my house. Could have walked home far faster... but I had no place to safely leave my vehicle closed and locked up (I.E. a parking lot)... so I didn't. Of the dozens I did see abandoned last week... none had their windows down either.

But like I said... I know how the mechanism on a bus door operates so I can understand how that could blow open in the right conditions.

The wind was incredible. And what if you had to "go" real bad, knowing that there was a bathroom on the bus you were walking to?

OK.. the photo I saw the other day locally was definitely the truck... not the bus, it was one of those you linked.

Still, if you have time to get to the bus... you have time to close the door.

And if if it's that cold and windy... then WHY pray tell are their windows down? Were they hoping for an insurance claim per chance? Bitter cold and windy are the LAST conditions that would prompt me to open my windows or walk away with the door open. And that truck had the passenger side window fully down and the drivers door wide open.

If you had to go "real bad" you would do it right next to your vehicle... trust me... a lot of people were doing it here last week... men and women.

Trust me, I'm on blood pressure medication... so you know that means I end up going frequently.

Snowmobiles had zoomed in to let trapped motorists know there was help coming (and were also rescuing people themselves). If you're in a freezing cold vehicle and can't see much past your windshield, are waiting for dawn, are maybe even asleep or dozing, then a snowmobile drives up to your vehicle, you roll down your window. If he says, "Hop on and I'll take you to safety," the tears of gratitude floor your eyes and your mind turns to mush with excitement -- so you forget to roll up the window because you're busy grabbing your possessions off the passenger seat and pulling the keys out of the ignition. An open window is the least of your concerns at that point. And who's going to steal your vehicle?

Still reaks of irresponsibility to me... that window could be up faster than they could get out of the door... and that truck likely had power windows that are faster than crank windows to get up or down... and you can close the door in 1 second... sorry... nobody is going to present a pressing emergency that doesn't involve water that's deeper than 3 feet for leaving a door or window open. Sounds exactly like the same people that would let their house go into foreclosure than make payments they could afford just because its value when lower than they owe... and there are people like that.

Incidentally... I'm a native Pittsburgher... I've seen 3 feet deep snow more than a few times. And I lved in a VERY rural area the plows were slow to get to.

Hey!!! You weren't worried about me? I'm even closer to Chicago than he is!! Because of the drifts, I can't see his house from my back porch any longer!!

We so want spring, but then there will be the melting and flooding....

Well I am worried now. I guess I didn't realize you were that way also. But looking back I remember it in conversation your locations. We certainly didn't get it that bad. We are getting more snow today but it isn't nothing like your way. Those news pictures were jaw dropping for me.

WG, those pictures were horrific!

The people stuck in cars must have been out of their minds with worry and panic, not too mention their families.

The photo was cinamatic.

The weather here has turned for the better, back to lashing rain and gail force winds.. Thank God, at least I know where I am with the rain!

Tonight I'm planning a major pig out, mega chicken pizza and chunky chips (fries), a gateaux in the fridge and a shelf reserved for wine (for me) beer (for brendan). and the box set of KILL BILL lined up.

Its 5.20 pm here, I'm in baggy pj's for the occasion, fire lighting and rain bashing off the windows...

Food, fire and pj's... total bliss!

All I need now is brendan to get home from work and were all set.

Anyway,

A* (1 1 1 1 1) in Chemistry [1 being the highest grade, so is A*]
A* (1 1 1 1) in Mathematics
A* (1 1 1 1 1) in Physics
B (7 10) in French [same system as General paper]

Its been an interesting week in the life of sunny.

Investigators are in town today because of the store fire. Yesterday the boss asked people to lie about his finances for him. He even had the gall to go in the bank and ask them to say he was up to date on it all. Wow. He even had his wife go in the bank and say the mortgage and taxes are behind because its her fault. In reality she isn't the one paying them.

Then in the mail we got the letter for my store. Pay the lease or vacate. Its not the official eviction notice yet but I am sure that's not far behind.

My cousin who survived stage 4 breast cancer less then 2 years ago just found out its now back and in her chest.

One of my friends spills it she is totally addicted to drugs, nees help getting clean.

Another friend emails me asks me if I would be interested in a 3-some with some guy she has never met but is meeting up for sex.

This this morning I noticed my cat decided to use my door moulding as a scratch post in my new house. ***!!

Morning adam!

How are you?

Lovely day here, spring ish even.

I went for a run this morning, 7.30am, decided to do a detour through the park, I don't usually as it's a very quiet area at that time of the morning, anywoo, there I was in the running zone, when I spotted two guys sitting on the wall drinking cans of beer, I passed, they called me a freak, I laughed with what breath I had and picked up my pace...

Me.. a freak.. really?

Ah adam I was grand.

I was jogging back to my lovely house to my warm snuggly brendan tucked up in bed, and my little whippersnapper ciara.

They were in a park at drinking beer at 7.30am, sad sad sad.

That is pretty sad on their part. Definitely would rather be you than them.

It is oddly warm here this morning. About mid 30's, not supposed to get much warmer but just a tad bit. No wind though so it feels pretty good.

Oh my week went from intersting to worse. As I type imagine a longer story with far more detail I won't bore you with and several swear words in for good fun.

My boss laid me off today. I am not surprised. Trust me. But as he is telling me this in is own words he said the 2 checks I am sitting on that won't cash, will never cash. This past week that I worked? I am not getting paid for. He told me to just apply for unemployment and say I was laid off on the 7th. Of course because he had no intentions on paying me for this past week. Here is the best part. During this discussion he said he still needed help though. I am a smart girl but at that point I was lost. I asked him if he was out of his mind. He seriously was laying me off, but still expects me there Monday morning like a normal work day and wants me to work on unemployment. WOW! Is all I could say to him. I gave him some choice words let me tell you. I asked him if he realized the trouble I could get in doing that if we were caught. He told me to say I was just hanging out. Wow again. I nicely reminded him that when I go home and tell my husband I am unemployed that his store is now the last place I need to be. If I am there I had better be coming home with a "real" check or my hubby would turn him in so fast its not even funny. All this crap and bull and all of it I have struggled through. All the people I watched him dump on and I was that last man standing. Well at least the others got paid on there way out. I am in such frustrations and stress I can't even have a darn drink!

What's a Samosa?
It's like an empanada. The samosas (a food from India, primarily) I've eaten were deep-fried vegetarian patties filled with diced potatoes and peas, and served with green or mango chutney. The empanadas brought in to my library by a Colombian volunteer's Mexican wife were yummy deep-fried patties filled with spiced beef. Google the two food names for recipes and images.

As for samosas, we call them "Samousas" (Sa-moo-ssa-z) and they are pretty common here since more than half the Mauritian people are from India. They're good to eat and can be vegetarian or non-veg. One of those fried snacks which you often want to eat more when you tasted one :)

But no, I don't know how to make them. I guess the hardest part is when it comes to fold the thin layer into a triangle.

If you could afford the bounce fees... cash those checks (go to the bank they are issued from, that same branch if possible) and if they bouce.. IMMEDIATELY go to the police and get him charged for passing bad checks... then file suit against him in court for the money... small claims court obviously...

It's a cruel thought... but maybe that would push him to take a header of the roof.

Hey... you worked the hours... YOU are entitled to that money... besides... he can pay you for it (cash rather than check)... or you can go to the arson investigators to tell them everything you know... ;) And after screwing you out of two paychecks... (heck even one) you could do it with a clean concience.

If you spend 5 minutes there on on the phone on store business... unpaid... after all of this, then you need your butt kicked every bit as much as he does.

Nah, after all, I'll not be looking into Hotel Management. Apparently, there is a great possibility that the first boss puts me on the night shifts and keeps me there for a long time. I don't think that working only at night is something I'll do.

Still looking more into Actuarial Science (jobs in banks and insurance companies mainly) and Chiropractic Science (mainly putting the bones of people in the right place).

I'm personally more attracted to Actuarial science because of the math involved. Now, I'm checking some universities providing scholarships, full if necessary. I've found Macquarie in Aussie and MIT in US. I don't know quite yet the exact conditions for the scholarships, but I hope I'll found out soon. Either that, or finding another university with full scholarships possibility. If there are none, then I'll resolve to partial ones.

I agree with you so much. I have been paying bounced check fees because of him for months. He has never paid me back. Lucky enough I haven't bounced a personal check because of it. I have never had issues like this before. So now I sit on 2 actual checks that can't cash. Then I have last week that I am not even getting a check for period. He said he will try and get me some cash. Oh trust me I have already thought if they questioned me I am the one flame that can burn the rest of his little empire. The things he has told me and wanted to do. I could burn him bad. I am not sure if I will be questioned as of yet.

No worries about me spending any minutes in that store doing any thing. I am so much smarter then that. He didn't think I was I am sure. Or maybe he thought there was something I had inside for him still and wanted to help him.

Thanks for the little chat on this smoothy. I know I am a broken record on this topic. But now I am stressed to max over it. His life has officially had an effect on mine and I am not OK with this. Well do what you can to screw him, because what matters is you, not him. If he wants to be a complete idiot, then let him be. Everything that you have listed here should be turned over to an investigator. I think you know things and you seem to know some things that need to be known. So, go talk to the police. Don't try and cover for some idiot, that only makes you look guilty as well and I know you are innocent. Well I hope I know. Tell him to quit screwing around and give you money now! I would be absolutely livid if I was you. I am actually very mad about it right now and it isn't even me. Just go clear your conscious!

I'd still go to the branch of the bank that he has an account with.

Try and cash the two... if they bounce... make a stink with the bank manager about it (they might freeze his account)... then I'd get a statement from the bank about it and head straight over to the closest State police Barracks and have a nice long talk with the desk sergant obout these bad checks he gave you.

Of course... assuming he can't come up with 100% cash for them in exchange for them back.

If I got stiffed out of a couple weeks pay... I assume it's a weekly pay and not every two weeks... I'd not harbor a second thought about spilling the beans on someone that had the nerve to screw me like that.

THere is one thing about waiting to be asked about someone who didn't screw me... and its another if I had a lot of stuff to get even with someone that just screwed me out of not just one... but two paychecks.

He OWES you that much... you weren't working there in exhange for a certain percentage of the profits all this time.

Adam and you smoothy are totally right. I have been to the bank in person about the checks. I actually have access to his account online also since that's one thing I did there. I don't even need to bother with the bank I already know I can look it up. I plan on giving him a call sometime tomorrow. See how he dances around it. Then he said he did it because I came home and have been crying all weekend about being laid off but haven't done anything to collect my checks. That has anything to do with what in my phone? GGrrr... I have nothing to hide I leave it around all the time. I never even have it with me. It's the fact he did it secretly. Then lied. Wow and I was so happy thinking we were doing well. I guess its just a bump today. Makes me angry though.

Well, dop whatever makes you happy Sunny because that's what you are is a big burst of sunshine!

If you take it as a bump in the road and just keep on moving, them keep on trucking hun. You just need to be happy and you deserve happiness.

I'm sorry he done that, he really shouldn't have but maybe, and hopefully he learned his lesson.

Yep I am having a beer. Lol

I am sure for one reason or another I deserved it.

I am hating this no job thing. But I usually spend an hour at the gym. But since I have no job I am working out over 2 hours or longer. I am loving it! Feels great.

How are you? Things going OK with the house and the issues you were having?

Well, have 4 or 5 beers for me, I could use them to chill me out.
I am doing better, but still stressed about them. I keep having plans and they keep falling through but after tonight, all should be good.

I wish I had the motivation to go to the gym or to work out at all. When I work out, I never concentrate on losing weight I usually gain weight because I focus on muscle when I really shouldn't, haha.

Good. I hope it all works out for you.

I like going just for the me time and the stress relief. I was doing weights big time for a short while but stopped. I didn't like the clothes getting tight feeling. Even though it was for good reasons. I do bust on my abs though. Some small weights and major cardio. I am not over weight but I do enjoy it so I am going to keep at it as long as I can.

A nice tight stomach looks good on a girl for sure. Around here it seems socially acceptable to be fat if you are a guy so I have kept the same weight for quite awhile but I am not happy with the way I look. I just don't know what to do because I have no motivation or mind set.

Its just habit for me now. If I don't have the motivation I just hop on a treadmill and drag butt. At least I am moving.

I would rather have a guy with some meat then nothing at all. I like a husky man for sure.

Adam, I love to cook, so any excuse to whip up something different or new is a good excuse for me!

Sunny, I'm really sorry things are so tense for you right now. I really do hope things turn around for you. Hugs big time sweets.

Yea know that is another bad thing, is 90% of women I know say they would rather have a guy like me than a skinny man. I don't know whaty has happened over time but it seems backwards.

What time is dinner ready Bella?
