Adam, I love to cook, so any excuse to whip up something different or new is a good excuse for me!!

Sunny, I'm really sorry things are so tense for you right now. I really do hope things turn around for you. Hugs big time sweets.

Thanks bella. I just get worked up.

Yea know that is another bad thing, is 90% of women I know say they would rather have a guy like me than a skinny man. I don't know whaty has happened over time but it seems backwards.

What time is dinner ready Bella?

So they can feel better when they plump up?

So they can feel better when they plump up? After they get that ring on their hand in some cases? Trust me... I'm related to people that let themselves go after the wedding. More than a couple.

Yeah I need to lose a few myself. I CAN still see my feet and suasage (without a mirror) so I'm not THAT big.

I can hear you there. I don't need a mirror yet either so I should be OK just as long as I don't go crazy.

That is a good explanation as to why my past coupld gfs were thin and then a couple months down the road, I gain nothing and they gain 40 lbs.

That made me giggle. You said sausage.

I am not the norm for women. I was actually a size 10ish when I met my hubby. Now I average a 1-2 depending on the store. I guess I like to fight gravity. I kind wish her were more active with me but I am a big girl.

Well I'm not telling y'all what size I am, Christmas was not kind to me... :D

Made Lasagna for dinner tonight. It was pretty good. I don't know if we would be very compatible Adam, the guys I date usually plumpen right up when they start dating me. I've maintained basically the same weight from my early 20's. I'm happy with the size I am now. I did join a gym and have been doing Hot Yoga. Holy crappola, that stuff is intense!

Bella I wish I loved cooking as much as you do. I guess its because I am not good at it. I don't think I am. When I try new things the hubby gets nervous.

Baking forget it! I can't even get box brownies to turn out.

My wife still weighs what she weighed when we got married almost 20 years ago 110 lbs give or take a few (shes short). And yeah... she does work to maintain it. I'm the one that put on some weight over that time. But most of it upper body. And 4 inches on the waist.

My sons is only good for 5 years if I read right. Mine is 10 I think. They are pretty long term. Which is good. But when its time to renew I am sure it will be easier. It was easy enough though. More then I thought.

Actually each new job I have had has always proven to be better. This one was not expected to last as long as it did but the pay proved to be way better then expected. I am going to get back in to banking. That's my thing and where I excel the most. I love it. I have a great connection right now at one. Problem is there is not an opening just yet and if so it will be part time. But I am OK with that. Stepping stones to the top!

You quickly learn to adapt. I was forced to retire because of illness and then became homebound when the Groundhog Day Blizzard left us two feet of snow plus drifts. Homebound isn't bad if you have books to read, crossword puzzles to do, a good computer, and a working stove. It's when the power goes out that you begin to twitch.

I did start reading again recently. I love it. I have been enjoying true stories. That is a good thing. I actually get kind of obsessed with cleaning. I am pretty neat anyway. But I will be windexing the washer and dryer soon or scrubbing cracks in places people don't see. Plus my gym time is always a good time killer. Maybe I will start selling on eBay again. When I was home pregnant I pulled my hair out. I was buying fish and birds just to have something to clean. Then I started selling on eBay and it was fun. Took up tons of time.

Hello everyone! :)

Welcome back Stringer!

Okay, now I think it's my turn to have some downs... I was actually becoming keen into actuarial sciences and today, I heard that actuarial science is a very tough subject, which is more about economics and accounting than math. I don't know what to do... over the past days, I've been trying to find universities and scholarships and all that and now I have to just leave it?

Sigh... I don't care whether it's tough or not... it could be difficult, but certainly not impossible. I'm currently looking into the Unit requirements, the things expected to know before each lecture and tutorials and I'd be glad to have access to some of the material which today are helping actuarial students in their courses, but that I know is practically impossible without actually being a student at the concerned university.

Now, I fear that if I persist in that direction, I'll sooner or later regret it and worse, I'll be losing some years and quite some money for the cost and tuition fees.

Oh, I looked up the website of MIT and I got confused. So many things, yet none of them contained information about what I was looking for, such as tuition fees (if one is not given any scholarship), List of undergraduate courses (where I'd look for actuarial science and info about it such as modules, facilities like part time study), list of post graduate courses (where I'll ensure I can stay in the same uni and further my degree), cost for accommodation and food, etc gah!

Anyone here has some experience in Actuarial Science? One thing for sure, it's that there are not many Actuaries around the world.

I went to another educational fare today with some friends organised by the school and asked for some information. Well, for one, I now know that economics and accounts are not really required to do well in actuarial science. So far one has a good math, one would do fine.

Thanks JLo! After a little talk with mum, I think that I'll not be able to do Actuarial Sciences :(

Apparently, when a student goes to another country for tertiary studies, (s)he will have to return to their countries once the studies are over. Meaning I'll have to come back to Mauritius. Now, there are only two insurance companies here, and the demand in actuary is probably very low, and the fact that it'll take some time to move to another country, I would be jobless for some time and still need to pay for my past studies.

Okay, I'm not giving this up yet. I want to try getting contact with people to make sure they need an actuary or not. So much to do, so many uncertainty, so little time >.<

Well, besides that, I'm falling back on the others, Chiropractic Science and Civil Engineering.

Well unky he is only 7. I just checked and it links right to my paypal and never once asked for my password. He plays on the computer all the time and is good. I dont know why he didnt ask. Truly I dont think he realized what he was doing. He never would have done that without asking. I know for a fact he wouldnt. Sometimes I let him buy small credits on this other game he plays. But most often not. I am trying to dispute it but jeez thats alot of money right now for me to be out. I want to ground him but it was such an innocent mistake on is part I dont know what to do.

Hey mothers any suggestions? I am thinking just a month with no computer. I dont know. Not a mom... but he has to be grounded... at 7 he should have an idea the differences between real and fake money. Particularly if he has been getting an allowance.

I'd figure out how to prevent it from ever happening again... or farmville goes bye-bye once and for all. No I don't play that so don't know how to unlink it.

Thank you bella and unky. I have a slight hang over. I was having a great night until I called home to check on my son. He was playing on the sitters computer doing Farmville. Somehow he spent $100 on FV cash. Never asked and the site never once asked for a password to access my paypal account. What the heck and I going to do now! I am trying to dispute it but I have a feeling its a lose lose situation for me. Oh he is in big trouble.

I think I heard about something like that on the news

Not sure how it turned out though :( but was fairly recent

He is grounded from the computer. The problem is I went in and checked it out and not once did it stop to ask for my password. Just like I mentioned. He clicked on the item he wanted and just assumed it was then his, and it was. It was that simple. There was one other click to confirm it and nothing else. Didn't direct him to my paypal or anything. He is a good kid so it's a hard call on his punishment. I know for fact he didn't realize real money was involved. I don't keep my eyes off him on the computer. I guess the sitter just lets him do whatever. That will also stop.

Depending on what version operating system is on the computer... you can and should password protect it. That prevents a babysitter from letting him get on it anyway. And you can control when he does better.

I'm not doubting he's a good kid... but even good kids do stuff they shouldn't from time to time. They just do it a lot less often than bad ones.

My computer is password protected I am the only one who has it. He was on her computer. I will get it figured out. I am checking in to it again right now. I would rather call and talk to someone then do the email thing. I did the dispute thing but now there is a 10 day. I hate that. So I will find a way to call.

There has to be a way to unlink that with farmville... but I've never messed with that to know what it is.

Meaning I know what farmville is... but I've never played it to know the inner workings.

And changing your paypal account might be more aggrivation than its worth... but it would achieve the same results... because they would have the old account info... not the new one.

OH that's OK Stringer I was picking. I don't mind the weather good or bad. I have a thing for nature no matter what it is.

I was quite excited to get a bag of deer corn, a salt lick and some other apple lick to put out for my birthday. Not normal gifts but that's what I wanted. Sitting in my house in the kitchen or living room I have the most beautiful view of this field surrounded by trees. We see deer in there often. I am going to try and lure them a bit closer. Nothing better then that nature right there.

That sounds so pretty. We get the occasional deer, even more occasional bear, and not so occasional mountain lion. I wish it were just the deer. I have about 3 feet of snow in my yard now. It's so pretty. We are expecting more snow towards the end of the week.

I'm still pretty busy. I got in at 5 a.m. this morning, so I figured it was time (now 9:15) for a coffee break and a little light reading - meaning I'll stay off the other threads. :o It will be like this until April 18.

I don't even need to put anything out to attract deer... any evening or morning you can see several wandering looking for food... and I'm not anywhere near the real woods.

I'm not putting anything out to not concentrate their numbers even more because of ticks and Lyme disease they carry.

I used to get them a lot in my field. But for some reason the past couple years they have dwindled. At one time the deer population was so bad in my county they extended the hunting season to help it. Sad in a way. I was wondering if that food would attract anything else though. Any idea smoothy?

Ouch, :(,

I recommend ibuprofen, paracetamol (3 tablets, preferably 2 paracetamol and 1 ibuprofen) and whisky, 1 or 2 shots, as long as your getting a lift to the dentist, obviously no drinking if you are driving :)

ACCA unky? I don't think I've heard of that before, but if it opens a lot more doors for you (carrear wise) then it deffinetly sounds worth it :)

I'm pretty sure the companies will already have software like that :)

I use excel files at the moment to take memory readings from devices and it takes the numbers and uses different equations to calculate the different values for different programs in use on the mobile devices I'm using. (I didn't set them up :o)

Yes and the good thing about it is that big companies always need accountants and such. Some people too have started their own accounting business and get paid to do the accounts of other businesses instead of working for one company only. Then, the latter gets revenue from big and small businesses together. Seems like a good plan ;)

Bella, I never felt so sick as when I had strep throat. I remember all of us ganging up on Adam to go to the doctor when he had it. I hope you went and got antibiotics - they'll knock it out in just a couple of days.

Adam, Have you thought about just doing something different in your free time to break the routine? It doesn't have to be a major change to give you a new spark. I don't know what you like to do, but something that always makes me feel better is a nice hike - something out in nature.

We had some sadness today. We took in our neighbors' 12 year old golden retriever back in January. The husband had just passed away and the wife could no longer care for the dog. He's been getting progressively worse, and a week ago lost the use of his hind legs. My husband was having to carry him outside to go potty, but we were hoping it was temporary and he'd get better. Instead, he just kept getting worse. Anyway, we had to put him down today. I know he is better off, but it was still sad. I've known him since he was a young dog and he was always so sweet.

Oh - and Unky, I read your post about Finance and Accounting. Feel free to ask me anything about the field - esp. the Accounting. There are a lot of ways you can go with that.

Sure, any recipes that revolve around chicken?

I ask because that's the only raw material in my freezer and I kind of need to eat it :D

When I get home, I'll look up some of my favorite chicken recipes for you.

As for omelets, that's easy. I actually prefer to do what we call an egg scramble. Start with preparing your eggs as if you are going to scramble them - crack 2-3 eggs in a bowl, add just a little milk, and stir with a fork until the egg yolks, egg whites, and milk are all mixed. Add your favorite ingredients - mine are one large chopped mushroom, some diced tomato, one sliced scallion, and some chopped and cooked spinach. Cook in pan, adding some shredded cheese (I prefer Muenster) when about 1/2 cooked. It has all the ingredients of a good omelet, but is easier to make and still looks good. The best thing is that it cooks evenly.

Literally my extent with cooking chicken is basically chop fillets into mouth sized pieces, oil up the wok, add the chicken and heat until the liquid is clear, add the curry sauce and simmer until it looks good or I get too hungry :D

But the white wine and terragon one seems easiest so ill be trying that one first, thanks Jlo :)

albear, it is different in Canada. We are metric same as UK. States are still behind and I guess converting that entire country to metric would be almost impossible. It was done in Canada though in the 70s.

When across the border visitors come into Ontario, they get a lot of tickets (that they don't have to pay on the spot much like in the US for foreign travellers), mainly because the metric speed limit is so different. On the major highways in Canada, in Ontario to be more specific it is l00km/ph; they read it as l00 miles per hour. Do the conversion and you will see where the problem is.

In residential areas it is 50km/ph, or 40 depending on residential area. Also it is illegal to pass on the right on a major highway like the 40l, which is six lanes, sometimes eight. The right is the slow lane. Passing lanes are on the left. I don't think it is set up like that in the US; or it wasn't when I lived there. For passing on the right on a major highway it is a fine of $500, plus having your car and license taken away. Yes, zero tolerance and sometimes appropriate on an eight lane highway where drivers do not have any respect for laws of the road.

Just some information I thought would be appropriate.

When I get home, I'll look up some of my favorite chicken recipes for you.

As for omelets, that's easy. I actually prefer to do what we call an egg scramble. Start with preparing your eggs as if you are going to scramble them - crack 2-3 eggs in a bowl, add in just a little milk, and stir with a fork until the egg yolks, egg whites, and milk are all mixed. Add in your favorite ingredients - mine are one large chopped mushroom, some diced tomato, one sliced scallion, and some chopped and cooked spinach. Cook in pan, adding some shredded cheese (I prefer Muenster) when about 1/2 cooked. It has all the ingredients of a good omelet, but is easier to make and still looks good. The best thing is that it cooks evenly.

It being Pancake Tuesday today, I have expanded my culinary reprtoir to include pancakes :D (sugar and blackberry jam in case anyone was wondering )

I love pancakes... and can make good ones... problem is how fattening they are.

And if you make a batch... you got to eat a batch.

What I crave that I have never been able to make for myself that tastes remotely right... is good Sourdough Buckwheat pancakes. And unless you are from the right part of the country... you won't even know what those are.

They are pretty much unique to the Appalachian culture as far as I know... and from personal experience you have to be in the general vicinity of West Virginia to even find them... Its typically a late fall and winter thing. Nope can't get them where I live in VA... people have never even heard of them around here.

And if they aren't allowed to ferment (sour) in a crock pot, they aren't sourdough and they don't taste even remotely the same. And real ones are 100% buckwheat flour... with ZERO wheat flour.

Damn... now I'm salivating for them with NO way to get any.

Fine thanks. I'm getting to work (temporary work) for my first time on Monday 21. I'm a little stressed. I have to finalise my CV and contact the person who's in charge of the hiring.

It's a friend of mine who asked his father, who then asked a friend to hire me, and that friend is the one hiring... if that made any sense :p

So... I don't quite know yet what it's all about. My friend told me I'll be working as clerk accountant, but I want to ask myself. I should sent a mail with my CV and my questions tonight. I already called the person hiring yesterday but haven't have time to ask everything, so... any tips on writing a CV? :o

Well be sure to include any special skills that you have, like a fast typer, however you would word that. Also some things like works great with others, Very organized, can multitask, word and excel literate, or whatever word I am thinking of. Just things like that to make you more valuable than others.

Unknown008
Mar 12, 2011, 07:03 AM

adam_89
Mar 12, 2011, 07:08 AM
Well, You just want them to know what you can do if needed to be done. I had 2 requirements when I first started this job and it was to be able to spell, and to be able to use a computer. Of course I knew much more than that and I do pretty much everything and more on that list that I gave you. So you can never know what is actually expected until you start.

So I guess you are saying you want to look good but not too good and I understand that.

Yep I will Unky, it will continue for quite some time. There is a lot to getting a new area of business up and going. A lot of researching, branding, studying local business, learning about our local competitors and their percent of the market and their approach to their market/s. And of course identifying our potential. A lot of demographics are taking place along with trying to get an insight and get some quick business also.

So you see my work has just began but we WILL be successful I have no qualms about that.

Best way to do it... if they have some significance to you it has lasting meaning, if you picked something that looked cool at the time... you would tire of it eventually.

Guess that's one of the reasons I never got one... nothing ever really clicked as having a significance and meaning to me.

When I was 15 I got my first tattoo, of a frog. It sure looked cool, but now I'm like, "what possessed me to tattoo a frog on my body"?? Same with the swallows on my hips, why in the world did I do that? I like birds and frogs I guess lol.

After a stressful week with work and wedding planning I was a bit down this evening, so I decided to have at gripe at brendan.. (as you do).. I was getting teary thinking about the past and brendan ups and leaves the sitting room.

Ever wonder what the hell keeps a relationship together, this is what he did.

I was sitting at the computer, next thing I hear bob seiger old time rock and roll blasting from the speakers, my goofy brendan slides into the sitting room wearing a shirt, jocks and tube socks and starts dancing, including guiter solo on the lounge table.

And I sat there watching my husband to be rocking it out and I laughed so hard my jaws are still acheing, cause I just love him and his goof ball ways.

Brillent, just brillent.

Indeed! Ernst & Young live up to its reputation I see :p

Anyway, if I get it and am sure I'll take it, classes will start on the 4th of April. We're the 17th and on the 21st, I'm having a temporary job initially set for 3 months.

I don't quite know what to do about the latter.. Should I go to that job for that 5 days before my courses start? I really don't know... My mum says that it won't be fair for the company to pay me for a mere week, but says it's up to me. Okay, but I don't think I'm in the right position to tell whether I'll work. Any advice? Maybe I could tell them that there is no need to pay me for that week, I'll be only taking this to get some experience?

On the other hand, I'll be waiting for the call first. If I do get the scholarship, then I'll have to decide for the job. Otherwise, I will be able to do it.
