I'm just wondering, is everyone at work right now?
I am. I'm in my private office. I mostly just direct people and my guys are all busy, so I guess my job is done. I'm only on the 2nd floor so my view from the office is the top of a bunch of trees. I believe they turned the building heat on yesterday. It's not so cold.
Think I'll take a coffee though! Actually, I use to average 25 cups a day. Now, I look at the stains on my cup, think of my innerds and wonder, 'what next'?

When things go right, it's awesome.
When things don't go well, I have to make them right. That can get quite hairy.
It's not that different from this forum. I just give advice. Once in awhile though, I've got to get out of the office, fly 1000miles up North to a rinky-dinky little town just to fix things.
Last month I did just that. A contractor was unable to do his job. So I flew 1000 miles up North to help him do the job. It turned out that he didn't read the scope of work that I created and couldn't figure out how to hook up a control system. After I showed him, (it took about 5minutes) I got on the next plane and flew back.
Kind of reminds you of the forum, eh? That day, I missed my coffee!
Everybody's happy today!
I've got no panic e-mails and the heat is on.
Life is good!

My 6 year old daughter goes to French Immersion school and I home school her in English. Everyone tells me how smart she is (but they probably don't realize she's in grade two because she's so small for her age). My wife always tells me, "Why isn't she smart like her friends".
Well, yesterday. I was reviewing her French spelling test for the first time and she nailed all the words. Afterwards, I reviewed her spelling practice and realized that her printing is very similar to mine- and at age six!
Maybe there is hope for her yet. :-)

Go figure. When my daughter was in grade 1, her first spelling test had words like;
White, black, red, violet, aqua-marine,blue, etc. (except all in French).
I thought the words were some kind of joke for grade 1. I didn't review them and she got a zero on her spelling test. Was I shocked. So much for '**** and Jane'.
Her words for this test are:
Un personne, les sables, les oreillers, etc...
I can spell them, but she has to read them to me first because I can't pronounce them!

It's my sons birthday on Sept 23. He'll be 1 year. My wife suggested that we don't celebrate but I want to if not just to have pictures so we can compare them to our daughter's pictures on her first birthday.
I was thinking of getting him a Disney video. That way our daughter (and myself) can enjoy it as well. Any thoughts?
I can't get into that changing diapers. My wife and I made a deal- I look after our daughters' school and activities and she looks after our son.

Kindergarten has really changed, with the rapid improvement in technology, and more and more survey's finding out exactly how smart kindergartner's are, schools and school systems for that matter are pushing younger kids harder and harder. I find it really sad. The system is not that bad now, but I was having a discussion the other day, about how quickly sex reaches our young one's. With the advancement in technology and younger kids being able to actually use it, it's not a hard leap to believe that kids are learning about sex at too young of an age. I think it robs them of their childhood. I really do. I think all this advancement is good, and trying to improve our kids, but at what cost. Sometimes I look on their faces and I don't see kids, I see little people. I know it hasn't become that big of a problem yet, but I think it's increasing and sooner than you think it will peak enough to a point where it will become a problem. I think schools need to slow down. Whatever happened to finger painting, getting told stories, and having milk breaks. Childhood innocence comes around once, you can learn forever, so as far as trying to get our kids to reach goals faster I think it's ignorant. But that's the problem with society today, everyone wants things faster and better, but hardly anyone stops and smells the roses. Death is inevitable, speeding up life only makes it more quick.

What a glorious day!!
I had 2 major exams in one day on Monday. Now, I only have 2 classes a week, but they both run over 5 very long days. Both exams just HAD to be on the same day, Monday!! Ugh!
Well, got my first nursing school results back.
I got a 94 on my Math for Nurses Exam
And ended up with a 92 on my Fundamentals Exam.
Yea ME!!
Shoo, that was one tough weekend.
Both tests were over 13 chapters, so that is 26 chapters in all!!

Wizzkid89, I couldn't agree more. I think it is sad how fast the children seem to be growing. I daycare children and I am shocked to hear some of the things that come out of their mouths. I have had to take some of them aside and ask them not to talk about certain subjects in front of the younger children. I love to take them to the park and watch them let themselves go and play the way children are meant to. I fear that in time we will regret encouraging them to mature too quickly. Not all the fault of the school system. Some parents seem to be in too big of a hurry encouraging them too grow up too soon.

Children learn from exsample. How many parents actually have the time to spend with their children anymore? It's one of the reasons that we decided that I am going to stay at home with the kids. As much as I hate the sleep deprivation and lack of adult company I think it will be better for the kids in the long run. I will always have the time to talk to them and listen to what they have to say. Most parents work too much to realize what's happening in their kids lifes... Oh my... Sorry guys, forgot this was the lounge... lol.. I'm going to find a mountain dew or two... maybe three... and a three musketers and chill... no skittles for me... Last month, my wife tells me, "my sister got diamonds for her aniversary".
How's a guy suppose to respond to a remard like that?
I said, "he's kinda early. You'll get yours on our 75th."
It cost me $2k in jewelry!! And I just paid off my MC. I wonder what my wife would say if I tell her that her jewelry was a combination anniversary AND Christmas present?
This brother-in-law of hers is nuts. He bought her sister a Rolex on the first anniversary (their anniversary is two weeks before ours). The first anniversary is nothing so that's what I got my wife- but I took her out for dinner. Seven years later I am still reminded of that fateful day.
One constillation, on my sister-in-law's fourth anniversary she got her watch factory serviced ($400). It turns out the Rolex warranty is void if you don't get it factory serviced at the recommended intervals. Ha, Ha. $400 would buy 25 new watches for me!
Think I'll have another coffee.

Yeah, isn't that something, $400/ four years just to own a watch. It saved my bacon though. Whenever the mood hit her, my wife use to always tell me, "remember our first aniversary, when you got me NOTHING?"
Now I tell her, remember your sister's fourth anniversary, when she got nothing? Guess what's going to happen on her eighth anniversary, she's going to get nothing... and her 12th, 16th. Gee, I wonder what she'll get on her 50? Let me guess... NOTHING!
Oops, a laps in mental division, but you get the point. Also, my wife's not good at math!

better spray the air before we leave. Then at least it'll smell like stale feet AND roses. =)
speaking of that, my wife and I have had a YMCA membership for forever, and we really like it. She had the Y upgrade (more private locker room, daily locker laundry service, jacuzzi in the locker room). One day after the workout we go out separate ways to get cleaned up and when I walk out of the lockerroom she asked why my nose was turned up a little. The guys lockerroom had some "plumbing issues" and that plus the hot steam made a lovely smell.
our tag line about gym lockers ever since had been girls lockerrooms smell like flowers and butterflies while guys lockers just smell like butts.
maybe the girls won't notice. =)

I don't sweat. I change my socks 1X/day. I don't have any fungus or other disgusting feet problems. Actually, my feet look quite good. They're small too at size 8.
It must be these work shoes. At least the shoes absorb the stink.
Any how, I got to go to get coffee and fill up cup #7. (Come to think of it, maybe it's all this walking to to coffee machine.)

Wait until you have to sand all the drywall. Two years ago we removed all the drywall in our home on the inside exterior walls. We insulated as there was none at all. We get cold Canadian winters. We lived in the house with all the mess including 3 bedrooms worth of furniture in the living room dining room combination. NEVER NEVER NEVER again. I ran my daycare business out of the house at the same time. 6 weeks of pure hell. I must have been out of my mind. Our heating costs went down considerably, but I'm not sure if it was my heated temper that did that. Good Luck.

Thought I would check in and see what's happening, and let you all know that the exhaustion hasn't killed me yet, almost but not yet. The kids are doing great both have gained about two pounds now. They look like babies instead of old wrinkley men and women. I'm back into regular clothes... I'm proud, I've lost 20lbs. I'm only into my big jeans but it's better than maturnity... lol. I'm sick of those. Well it's feeding time and then a shower for mom... Shhhh! Don't tell the kids I'm taking time for that or they won't let me... hehehe. Oh Charlie slept through the night last night!! Tooo bad that Jessie isn't, she's easier to get back to sleep though. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Well, Myth my dear sounds like things are going great!!
JesusHelper was on his way to the hospital this morning. He has been away cause he was working the day shift this week. The cigars should be passed around any time I am hoping.
Well, scored a 92 on my dosage calculations yesterday and got my check off on my heat-to-toe exam.
Yea ME!!
I start working at the hospital next Tuesday!! I can't wait!

Congrats J... I know you were just playing tal... I guess my sense of humor has taken a vacation with being able to sleep. You should have J look at that lump on your head tal... looks like it's pretty tender...

I would let her take a look but I think she would rather examine some body's toes and I'm too ticklish for that. A cat once snuck up on me and licked the bottom of my feet and had me rolling on the floor like a fool.

I guess my secret is out then oh well
Yeah, T, you have the smart bumps!!
How did you get away riding the short bus all these years?
Anyway, big test tomorrow... think of me at around 12:20 central time!!
Send me all your vibes...
Can I pay anyone to get the answers for me?
Well, I made it through my first day in clinicals. It was interesting to say the least.
I had many ask "How do you think you will handle it if someone dies on your shift?" My answer was that I would not know till I got there.
Well, it happened. My first day.
I guess I am a true nurse, because I was able to help the family without it totally affecting me.
I just have to say, today was one of the best experiences in my life!!

Hi J9. My youngest daughter works in a Nursing home. Her first death didn't hit her until after she had taken care of the family. I told her that death was as much a part of life as birth was. What made the difference is what you choose to do with your life in between. I don't think that you ever get used to it but when you hear what they did with their life makes it a little more manageable. I think helping the family is the important thing. You already helped the deceased as much as you could. I think you will be good at what you do for the people that you assist. Good luck with the rest of your studies.

J,
In a word, Bravo!
Actually I did nothing with the deceased, he was not my patient. However, when I walked out of MY patient's room I saw people crying in the hall. It was heartbreaking.
And yes, part of life is death. This gentleman was 93, he had plenty of family around.
Although it is hard to see them go, sometimes it is good. When they are 93 and dependent again like an infant, it is good. He was ready.
The family was grateful that there were 12 student nurses there to help ease their pain.
Thanks Momi, you made me smile!!

It really takes an act of kindness, compassion and selflessness to do what you did. Lots of people would walk away feeling they wouldn't know what to do or say, or they would just think it was too difficult and would make them feel bad in the process.
I think you're going to do wonderful things...
Now, if I could only be as smart as Tal, I'm not sure I'd be very attractive though with all those bump on my head...
Okay, can someone please pass the hot sauce!!

It's chocolate cake with bugs on it.
I've got Butterflies, worms and what look like bees.
Very cute with pink icing.
Doesn't seem like five minutes ago that we where in hospital waiting for her to arrive.
Yeah, time goes fast doesn't it? My girlie will be 13 a month from now. I can still remember her delivery like it was yesterday!!
I'll take some protein please (worms) LOL
Did Millie smear it all over her face? First b-days are always so fun!

Happy birthday... god it won't be long before I'm doing double duty for the first birthdays... I remember it like it was just a month ago... oh wait... it was...
Congrats ben hope she had fun on her day. Did she get lots of stuff? Hope she had lots of fun.
J_9--My best friend is in Nursing School right now also. She is in clinicals right now. Whe said her patient had all sorts of good stuff to work on. Then she said, good for her maybe not so good for him. Something about changing lots of bandages and several different IV's.
She loves it and is looking forward to finishing next summer.
Wow BIM, clinicals are fun. I had my first yesterday. I had a blast. However, the 1st semester is geriatrics, I am really unsure about that.
Good luck and congrats to your friend. Be sure to go to the pinning ceremony if you get a chance to.

Well, I just happened to stumble across this thread and it's a nice idea. And, in less than 3 months has received over 1500 replies. That's pretty impressive! This site can be quite addictive to say the least. I'm not sure why that is, except that, in a sense, it's the perfect way to engage in dialogue with other people, with nobody interrupting you and the full assurance that others will hear you out before replying. That's something that's hard to come by in spur-of-the-moment, face-to-face conversation. To an extent I agree with the sentiment that modern technology is killing people's social skills but there is something to be said for it nevertheless. The way I see it, home computers and the internet are to my generation what television was to my parents' generation and what telephones were to my grandparents' generation ; something I grew up without and will never take for granted but my kids will.
OMG has anyone ever been stuck in an elevator? I was today. It was a rather unique experience.
I was at school, minutes before class was to start and the power went out right before we hit the second floor.
Lucky me, class was cancelled for the day, at 7:35 this morning.
Yes, I was to blame, I take all the blame for cancelling a math class on a Friday practically before the sun rose.
Oh, yeah, that is right... I am the hero of the class cause everyone HATES math!! :D
P.S. I posted my first Nursing Clinical pic here. I am in the back row

Yes J9. I had the misfortune of being stuck in an elevator many years ago. The misfortune really goes to the three business gentlemen that got stuck with me. I am extremely clostraphobic. It was a government building that we all worked in. The minute I realized that we were stuck I lost it completely. When that elevator finally started to go the three men opened the doors and pushed me out. Poor guys. God only knows what I had to say during our misfortune. I take the stairs now everywhere I go no matter how many floors. Good exercise to boot.

I wasn't stuck in an elevator but I have had a bad experience in one. I had to go to the hospital er and I was going to have x-rays done and radiology was a couple floors up and well they had me on some pain killers. This is when I was 13 or so. Anyway the thing dropped two feet with me on a gurney and my mom and the poor orderly. I started to freak cause I wouldn't be able to get out on my own. They actually had to lift me out still on the gurney. I hate elevators now. I take the stairs when I can but with the kids it's not possible at the moment. That's my tragic elevator story.
