Jun 5, 2008, 06:56 AM
You know what biggie, I just realized that one of my friends call me biggie in real life.
I have nicknames for almost everyone... bunnie, little one, slowmoo, ripper, etc. One girl I call smalls calls me biggie. Together... we are biggie smalls.
*apologies to anyone who's not familiar with west side hip hop.. . that means you alty.

Jun 5, 2008, 07:06 AM
LOL Sneezy... thats pretty funny.
I don't really have much for nicknames. Not since say middle school. Not that I really miss it - some of those nick names weren't my favorite.
A few of the girls I went to high school with still like to use the names I had in middle school, because they know I'm not a big fan :(

HistorianChick
Jun 5, 2008, 07:08 AM
Mmm... I love rain... but only when I can walk in it... or puddle jump... ;)
I actually survived high school without a nickname. The only person that ever really called me any nicknames was my Dad... and those are NOT going to be shared!
ISneezeFunny
Jun 5, 2008, 07:10 AM
It's a sad confession, but... I use nicknames because I can't remember their names to save my life. I can remember small details like about the time they told me that their grandmother likes to collect newspaper clippings about natural disasters...
... but I can't remember that their name is... uh... yeah, forgot. So I'll come up with a nickname for them like... clipper. Makes it easy.
Hi starby! How's the van-situation?
ISneezeFunny
Jun 5, 2008, 07:11 AM
Nicknames I'm currently called:
Kimbo, kimmie, biggie (from the girl I call smalls), big one (from the girl I call little one)... GOD is occasionally used.
... yeah I said it.
HistorianChick
Jun 5, 2008, 07:13 AM
Well, yeah... I know... I think I said that in... what?. Barcelona? ;)
Someone called me a Nightengale yesterday... odd... but hey... its better than some things!
I take it back... my ex used to call me Angel Eyes. I liked that.
starbuck8
Jun 5, 2008, 07:18 AM
Hey Sneeze. Haven't checked it out yet. First on my list after coffee! *more yawns* I hope there has been no more tampering happening. Urrrggghhh!
Speaking of nicknames... I had more than my share! Some weren't so nice, and some were just plain weird! Hence Starbuck! Someone from my old baseball team, started (for who knows what reason) calling me Jo Jo Star Buck Buck (he just said he thought I deserved an extra buck, lol) . That turned into to Bucky, Bucky O'hare, Bucket... and the list goes on. Imagine how embarrassing that was... to walk into a public place and have somebody yell, 'HEY BUCKET! " Not 's good! ;)
ISneezeFunny
Jun 5, 2008, 08:27 AM
I completely forgot! Freshmen year, this girl started calling me candy andy (my name's andrew... ) and we got into a conversation about how that sounds like a male stripper's name.
So I started calling her cinnabuns.
... and for the past 4 years, ANYTIME I run into her (library, book store, restaurant, bar, GRADUATION), I've yelled out, "CINNABUNS!" and she'll yell out "CANDY ANDY!"
Needless to say... we both had some explaining to do to our parents at graduation.
... it was a good time.
EDIT: I had "explanating" earlier... wth? Explanating?. what was I on?

I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad not to have a nickname.
The few I can think of aren't the nicest names - typical high school guy stuff I guess (e.g. lets see what dirty words rhyme with your last name.)
Not to mention my first name being Nick - that rhymes with tons of great words
starbuck8
Jun 5, 2008, 08:39 AM
No kidding... funny! It's a little strange, to this day, I will run into someone from the team, and they really don't even know my real name! You're right Sneezy, you start calling someone by a nickname, and after awhile you just don't remember the real name. There was a kid in school that we called "Stinky." We weren't picking on him, he was in our group of friends, and it all started innocent. I saw him not too long ago, and without even thinking, called out "hey stinky!" We didn't think much of it, but I'm sure the people around us did! LOL!
Another guy, who's last name just happened to be Dyck, we grew up calling him "Scratch". (hehe) Again, it just became normal, and none of us even knew his real name... still don't know! LOL

hi everyone!
I'm in a bit of a pickle.
I've worked in this research lab for the past 4 years... since freshmen year of college. Now that I've graduated, they say that I have to go through the hiring process again... going through background checks and a drug test. The thing is, I have this week and next week, and then I'm gone. My background check's scheduled for next week... which doesn't really make sense. As soon as I pass my tests, then I get "hired"... but by that time, I'll be gone.
Here's the pickle. I'm not supposed to start working until this hiring process was complete... but no one told me until now. Even my PI (principal investigator... my boss) didn't know about it. So... urg... I don't get paid this week and next week. I mean, I never did this job for the money, but... what a bummer huh? And it's not like I'll just stop working because it's my project and it's my research. Darn.
Anyway, it's 2pm... getting off early to go study. I'll be back much later.
JR: I'll write you back later. :)
have a good'un everyone!

AHHHH, my sister-in-law (and I use the term loosely) just emailed, she wants Wiggy to call her. I sent her an email recently asking how my mother-in-laws house was coming along. My MIL dyed last March, and her estate has yet to be settled. My SIL is fixing up the house to make a profit (which we won't share in) but until she completes it and sells it we don't get our inheritance. The house prices have dropped drastically in the last 14 months, if she gets screwed, she'll screw us, that's her nature.
Got to run for a bit, get Wiggy to call, I want to know what she has to say.
Back later all. I'm on the edge of my seat, or a very slippery slope, whatever.:(

I'm back, and mad. My SIL is a piece of work, M, can I send her to you, do what you will with her, are there any hungry crocodiles in your area? Kidding, sort of. ;)
I don't want to get into it, but let's just say she offered us 1/3 of our inheritance in order to get off her back. She's the executor of the will. I think we just might have to go to court, which we really don't want to do, but she's making it very clear that this is our only option. Arghh, I'm sometimes very glad I was an only child.

Alty
Jun 5, 2008, 09:17 PM
Nope, not even close. Compared to her, I'm a goddess, and I'm just an average looking person, not saying much for her. She weighs around 350 pounds, has a really weird hairdo, and to top it all of, she's a big B little itch, not a good package, inside or out, to meet her is to abhor her, sad but true. Luckily she met a guy that is just as bad as her, he'd stab his own mother in the back to get ahead. It's sad to think that Wiggy and her are related, thankfully he's not at all like his sister. Maybe she was switched at birth. Oh, and she treats my kids like fungus, can't stand them. They're kids, and as kids go they're pretty darn wonderful, yes I'm biased, but to know them is to love them, they've both got great hearts, loving caring kids, how can you hate that? Oh you, when you have coal for a heart you can't love anything.
Wow, sorry, didn't mean to vent like that. Feels good to let it out. Really, in order to know her I'd have to write a book, she's been a thorn in my side and Wiggy's for 18 years now, longer for Wiggy.
Okay, happy Alty now. Where's my beer? ;)

Alty
Jun 5, 2008, 09:28 PM
Make it three and I'll buy her a plane ticket. Ooh, bad Alty, was that out loud?
I've tried like her, I really haveo, she's the only person on this earth that I can actually say that I hate. Hate is a strong word, I never thought I'd ever hate anyone. I don't hate her for how she treats me, but Wiggy and the kids, that's unforgivable. Do what you want to me, I can handle myself, have a tough skin, but when she talks down to Wiggy and I see tears in his eyes, well, send me the croc, because I'm mad!
Really, happy place now. Alty find your happy place. Oh, look, bubbles, bubbles in my beer, BEER! All good now. :)

Alty
Jun 5, 2008, 09:41 PM
I don't know why some people are like that. I do know it's not only women, but I will admit that women tend to be B itch ier than men at times (I'm going to be out of the girl club for admitting that ;))
As to why people put up with it? I don't know. Life is too short to be miserable, if you're not happy then why stick around? Some people are just so afraid to be alone and lonely. Better alone than miserable I always say. Who listens to me though? ;)
I bet the crocs would find my SIL yummy, and very filling. Jeesh Alty, behave! :)

Okay, get out the calendar, figure out the dates, and set it up. Really, this is a great opportunity for you two to meet in person. Who knows, maybe the magic will be as great in real life as it is here on AMHD. :)
One thing, if you two end up falling in love and getting married, I so need to come to the wedding, after all, I started this. ;)

You're a peach, Alty. :)
On another note... I've been wrestling with a certain mental block for the past few days... the mental block that results in giving your two weeks notice... the whole "What are they going to do?? Fire me??" mental block...
I should be working extra hard to get things taken care of ahead of schedule to help them out... I should be writing articles for future magazines, composing templates of InDesign documents for the designers to have that "heads up", transcribing details... but what am I doing?? Surfing AMHD.
Again, I say... "what are they going to do? fire me??"
Bad HC. :D

Oh, trust me I thoroughly cased the joint (even managed to avoid the 'chocolate landmines) before I posted... nothing weirder here than what goes on at my zoo, er, house. I mean c'mon, its not everyday someone comes out of the bathroom from shaving the dog with her husbands hair clippers (whoops) to find their dachsund in the 4 ft. tall trash can busily munching on tuna scraps in cans. She even knocked the dr. pepper box out of the trashcan because I guess it was trying to steal her tuna. I guess it was my fault for leaving the trash can next to the couch. She mustve been determined... it was still a good foot to the top of the trashcan. Sorry I missed everyone's posts, but I just managed to claw my way gasping to the top of mt. laundrymore. Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Chameleon, sounds like my house. My dogs are constantly getting in to the trash. Just yesterday we were having dinner when I saw my border collie sneaking out of the kitchen. I decided to follow him, only to find that he was looking for a spot to enjoy the remains of a chefboyardee can that he dug out of the trash. The look on his face was priceless "Dangit, busted!" Sad thing is that we always thought it was the lab who did it, he's the one who looks guilty when we get home to find garbage all over the place, but alas, it's the border collie. I think we might have to set up surveillance. ;)

And chameleon, I have noticed recently a rise of thread starters who just want to hear what they want to hear and will give you nice red ratings if they don't agree with your advice. I need to be more selective with the ones I choose.

Don't let it bother you, if I got upset every time I got a reddie, I'd be a basket case. We are all humans with different opinons, and sometimes we get a bit heated when we don't agree with someone.
Good rule of thumb, unless you can prove that a post is inaccurate, don't disagree with a reddie, just post that you don't agree and why.
You're not a pushover, just a nice person, and a fair person, stick with that and you'll do fine here. :)

I'm proud to be 37, I've learned allot in my 37 years and plan to learn even more in the years I still have ahead of me (which I hope are allot). It's hard sometimes when you answer a post knowing that you are right, and the OP doesn't want to hear it, that's when age and wisdom becomes a curse, because you've lived through all of this stuff already and know the outcome, but your advice falls on deaf ears. Frustrating.
Oh well, live and learn, sometimes you just have to let people make their own mistakes and hope that they come out okay in the end. Right?

Biggie, I do try, and sometimes it works (not talking about you sweetie, you always listen to good advice, and you are smart enough to figure it out on your own), but there are times that you just want to reach through the monitor and slap the OP or someone else, it's like talking to a brick wall. Oh well, all we can do is try, right? I won't give up, even though at times I want to wack my head against that brick wall. ;)

No, I figure ill get the deets from another friend who was going... the town where she's getting married is about 30 minutes away. I wanted to make her a wedding afghan, bit hesitate to because I don't know her colors, and also because 2 years ago I made her a hat and scarf set in pink and white for christmas and never heard anything about them. I had to ask her then boyfriend if she liked them and he said yeah... why go through all the work for someone who won't appreciate it, especially when I'm a perfectionist about my craft.

I can't stand netspeak or chatspeak, I'm way to old to learn and have no desire anyway. I prefer real words, complete sentences, with punctuation. Call me old fashioned. ;)
Biggie, I could make you learn, and you don't have to read my mind. You do realize that I'm breaking the female code of honor by even offering to do this, right?

Yeah, I have no desire to sit there for five minutes wondering why someone would use "d" instead of the... When you type acurately, it's simpler to type faster, and easier for people to understand... It's frustrating.

It's funny and really sad all at the same time. Whatever happened to sex ed? Does this girl think her boyfriend has super sperm with super powers? Arghhhhhh, it's so frustrating. Really, I hope this girl isn't serious, and if she is, I hope she keeps her pants on. ;)

Edit: We posted at the same time Alty. I sure hope she does keep her pants on!

Play the field for a while, nothing wrong with that, and it can be tons of fun. Gee, why do I feel like I should be giving you the sex ed speech now. Okay, play the field, but be careful, that's better, now I did the Mom thing. Hey, I'm getting pretty good at this, by the time my kids are teens I should be a pro. Gulp, I don't want to talk sex with my kids. You know I'm kidding, in fact, the sex talk has already started, albeit at a level they can understand and accept, quite frankly, we're still at the "the opposite sex is icky" stage, I can live with than for, oh, another 20 years. ;)

I think I just saw supersperm do a fly by!. could I be pregnant? LOL!
Honestly, I hope that girl isn't serious with her question, but I guess we should answer just in case. I guess some kids just don't get the real facts. That's very sad, and that is why there are so many kids that are either taken care of by foster parents, the government, or they end up neglected and abused. Very sad.

So have we decided on your nickname? I don't think I would be comfortable calling you toad. LOL! Besides, you haven't met our resident "M" (Friend4U) yet! He would have a hayday with that... so choose carefully, hehe!
Sorry M, I have to warn people of your crazy antics while you sit in the corner and spy on us! :p
He won't be back till tomorrow night, so I am getting out my running shoes now, and doing my stretches just in case! HA!

Awww, I'm so sorry to hear that! That is always a hard thing. I'm lucky to still have both of my parents, and lucky to still call them a pain in the butt sometimes! Heehee! I dread the day that I can't call them that anymore.
You are so young to have lost a parent at your age. I'm so sorry,. it must have been hard for you, and your mother can't be very old either. I can imagine that she misses him a lot for sure!

I still have my mom and my maternal grandparents and my moms 2 brothers... both my dads parents passed away when I was 3 and 5, his sister passed away a long time ago, and his brother was stillborn, so I'm the only one left, and I got married so my name changed. Hubby and I thought that when we have kids, if 2 are boys, we may give 1 my maiden name.

That is a nice idea! I'm sure your Dad would be proud to have a namesake. My Dad is so proud of his grandchildren, but the only one that would have our sir-name, to carry on, is a girl... so that doesn't work.
Both sets of my grandparents have been gone for yrs. and more good friends and extended family than I could list, but it must have been hard for you to lose everyone on your Dad's side of the family. So I can see why your hubby and you would want to do that!

All I can say is wow... I remember my mom asking when I was 14 if I knew how babies were made. I'm like yeah mom, for about the last 5 years. I shpuldve scared the crap out of her and told her that I didn't until my boyfriend showed me, but I didn't have a boyfriend, so that wouldn't have worked. Also would have gotten me in hot water for, oh, the rest of my life. Sorry about not capitalizing the beginning of sentences and no punctuation, but I'm on a cell phone, so it's a pain in the butt.
