On top of that, in generally you release the egg from the ovary about a week after your peroid ends (so second week into your cycle). This is when you are most fertile because it's best for the egg to meet the sperm midway through the fallopian tube. This gives time for the egg/sperm to divide enough times to become a blastocyst and then implant into the endometrium.

Barnes & Noble.com - Books: Taking Charge of Your Fertility, 10th Anniversary Edition, by Toni Weschler, Paperback, 10th Anniversary Edition

This is an excellent book. It shows you how to know when you're ovulating, no matter how long your cycle is, looking at your body's physical changes.

Learning. Great book, but the site does not permit advertising.

With that said, you ovulate approximately 12 days after the first day of your period. So, the day you start your period count ahead 12 days. That should be the approximate date of ovulation if you are on a 28 day cycle.

I use a free site called mymonthlycycles, you just enter your period dates and it will predict your ovulation date. It can even email you an ovulation reminder. Good Luck!
