    Wireless Network
    Hello,

I have a wireless enabled laptop and I purchased a Netgear router which came with a free adaptor (which I shouldn't need). I configured the router but cannot get my laptop to access wireless without using the adaptor. The laptop is definitely wireless enabled and I have checked for on/off switches etc but can find nothing. It works fine with the adaptor plugged into the USB port.

    Anything I might be missing?

    Thanks for your help anyway.

What happens when you try and find available networks without the adpater?

    Scott,

The system just doesn't pick up the wireless - wireless network not found is usually the message. It also advises to check that the wireless switch is on!

    Thanks

I assume that your laptop has a wireless card built-in. If so then go to the manufacturer's website and get the drivers for that card, download and install them.

You shouldn't need drivers for Win XP or Vista. But I would go back top the Laptop mfg and find out why the internal card isn't working.

    They do, here's an example:
    Drivers & Downloads
Click on Network to see all the drivers for the onboard wireless controllers.

    Thanks folks.

As I don't seem to have missed anything obvious, I think I'll take the laptop back to the shop (PC World) and ask them why it doesn't work wirelessly (that is without the adaptor). Maybe there is a fault in the card. If I find out otherwise I will let you all know.

    Many thanks anyway.
