What's the Best Way to Remove Soft Contact Lenses from Your Eyes?
    Hi, All!

I've waiting to get new hard contact lenses. Have been given a couple of soft ones from my optometrist.

What is the preferred method to remove the soft contact lenses from the eyes, so that they will be less likely to be damaged, please?

    Thanks!

Grab them with thumb and fore finger on either side of the lense and pinch and pull gently. Keep hands clean and use the other hand to hold open your eyes. The idea is to squish it off your eye without creasing it too much.

It's really what's more comfortable for the wearer. I keep my nails long so this method has never worked for me. I move my lens to the bottom lid until it folds and grab it. I've done it this way for years. And I've taught both ways to patients for a long time.

    Hi, Momma!

How do you move the lens to the bottom eyelid, though?

Do you actually touch the contact while it's in your eye, or move the upper eyelid to move the lens?

The openings to my eyes are kind of small, so sticking my fingers in my eyes can sometimes be quite a chore!

    Thanks!

You move it with your finger. Holding your top lid helps while looking up...

So, are you saying actually touching the contact lens?

So, how do avoid damaging a lense by actually touching/handling it, please?

They are designed durable enough to touch. You have to touch it to get it out. If you are pinching the sides together it will fold in between your fingers and you are still touching it. Just set it in the solution so it rinses over night and you are fine. You won't rip it by removing it unless you are too rough, your nails are long, or its worn out.

So, how do you know when a soft contact lense is truly worn out, please?

    Thanks!

They have a wear schedule. If they are daily lenses don't wear them more than a day, same with weeklies and monthlies.

So, how do I know what the wear schedule is on the ones that I'm wearing, please?

I don't recall seeing anything on the package for them.

    Thanks!

It's usually written on your prescription. Or the box does usually say. If you let me know the specific brand of your lenses, I can look up the wear schedule if I don't know off the top of my head. Thanks, Clough.

I notice that you say Please in nearly every post. You're so polite! You'd want to sock me in the face if you met me in real life. I have a sailor's mouth... :P
