My riding lawn mower would crank, but not start until I pulled the ground wire off!
I have a riding Murry mower w/ a Briggs Stratton engine. It would crank, but not start. I secured the contacts on all the pressure switches, checked the fuse, and cleaned the ground contact to the frame. Finally I pulled the ground contact off the top of the fly wheel and she started fine... Only problem is I have to pull the spark plug to cut her off! Will operating w/out a ground damage the mower? Is there another way to cut her off(I tried adding a switch to the ground wire, but she still wouldn't start until the wire was off the contact!)? I guess I have a short in the ground somewhere - how do I go about locating the short? Thanks for any help you can provide, Amanda
