Usually a nickname is something that catches on because your closest friends start calling you that and it sticks. Nicknames usually reflect something about you so it would be hard for us to come up with the best nickname to fit you since we do not know you.

I think that is something that has to be earned...

Murray is cute. Tell everyone to call you by your new name (whatever it is.) It will become a habit for them.

But I do agree... a nickname's usually earned.

    Here are my nicknames:

    Sneezy
Karma (... apparently, I make sure people get what they deserve?)

And certain variations of my last name.

... no, no, it appears you're wrong. It CAN be Cookie or Candy.

On a serious debate note, only 1 in 10 nicknames I've ever heard from people actually reflect a character trait. Nicknames frequently are acquired so long ago they are either totally random, or any character trait they reflected grew out years ago...

    I'm just saying.

True a nickname can be outgrown or also often a nickname is given in a joking manner such as calling someone
6' tall and heavy Tiny. But generally I don't know any body that just got a nickname that didn't have some sort of significance attached to the person at some point in time.

Anyone who doesn't appreciate the significance of Candy and Cookies doesn't understand "sweetness".

    :) :) :)

I guess the 2 miserable girls I know that are nicknamed Candy either outgrew their nickname or else they were given the nickname the same way the 6' guy got nicknamed Tiny :D :D :D

nickeknew, it is perhaps better that a nickname be "earned" but whether it should be is an opinion, not a fact. Also, your not liking my idea for a nickname is simply your opinion, not a pointing out of wrong information.

Please read the site rules as to how disagree's are earned. Also note that chat speak is not okay on this site.

    People call me "green"

    Why?
    My last name is "Green".
My eyes are green (or hazel, but what's the difference)
My favourite colour is, you guessed it, green.

    The name fits me, "Green."
    _____________________________________

I also have a friend who we call "Obama"

    Why?
He is african American (or African Canadian)
He is interested in business and politics
He looks like a 16 year old Obama

You don't usually choose a nickname for yourself, they just come up. Usually made up by friends. And I've noticed its guys that give each other nicknames more than girls do each other. I don't think I have one friend who I call by their first name.

But, if you want to choose a name, think of your personality, favourite colours, consider your last name, if it is a weird or uncommon last name (I have a friend "Doucas" which is his last name). An action you did, that may have been stupid or funny. A crime you committed (I hope not). Or a talent you have. Or a hobbie. I have an ex-girlfriend called "bike" because everybody "rides" her... I didn't like it when I learned that.
But that aside, choose a name that describes you.
Good luck, and let us know what you decide!

You can't just simply get one, you need to do something that will earn you the nickname. Like, I'm short and got the nickname "Mini-Me" in 6th grade. Or in Bring It On: In It To Win It, the main character bumbs into someone and gets run over by a stroller. She gets skid marks on her shorts, so a guy that saw it called her "Skids".

Actually you CAN just get a nickname, those are mostly ones that are shortened versions of names, called my middle or last name.
