Hello all. I found this thread on a search engine, so I registered to comment. I am a 20 year old male, and I have been considering shaving my pubic hair. I'm not exactly the most "experienced" with girls, so I haven't had the opportunity to hear a girl's opinions on guys shaving that area. However, recently, a few of my guy friends have mentioned to me that they do it, so now I am intrigued to try it. I have always just trimmed my pubic hair because I hate it when it is super long. I wanted to try shaving it, but a few things kept me from doing so. First off, as other people have mentioned, shaving any area makes the hair grow more quick and thicker. I don't know if I want fast-growing thick hair in that area where I'm going to constantly have to be shaving it. Also, suppose I don't like it after one shave? If I let it grow in after shaving it only once, will it still be thicker? My other question for the guys that shave is what about the hair in the surrounding areas? I have a lot of hair on my legs, butt, and stomach. I'm just wondering if it will look weird if just the area around my penis is shaved and I still have a bunch of hair on my legs, butt, and stomach. I definitely do not want to be shaving all of those other areas. Does anyone have a comment on this?

    Thanks!

Im a 17 year old male, and I just shaved all my hair off on my and balls. The only problem I had was above the shaft it left little stubble, I was using a razor. Can someone please tell me what shaver to buy that gets rid of the stubble and looks like no hair is there at all? Thanks.

    Practice makes perfect
Just keep doing it for 6 weeks or so, and things will settle down, and look a this forum, as there's loads of advice on this subject. Some people think that it will make the hair grow back stronger and thicker. I've found no medical evidence to support that theory. Hair doesn't double once its shaved, and hair is the same thickness no matter how many times it's cut. Think about it!
It's a personal preference if you shave and if you wish to continue to do so.

    Straight answer
Well this has been asked quite a few times but still no straight answer so I've seen. How long does it take to grow back fully? I shaved for the first time yesturday and its all stubly and don't like it. Not really to itchy but if I turn the wrong way or something that cause my member to move it'll hit the hair/stubble or cause the skin with the stubble to move and it hurts a little. I'm just going to keep it short. But I was wondering how long it takes to grow.

    Time to grow
Hi, in my experience pubic hair grows around 2.5mm per week. So it depends how long you wish to grow it, to know how long it will take to grow back.
    10mm / 1cm =per month
    30mm / 1inch =3 months and so on
If it's itching when you move, perhaps you're letting it grow too long between shaves, I use to shave every two days, but if you've just started, I'd shave every 4 days, for at least the first few times, until your skin cools down.
Another thing is tight underwear. If you can get away without underwear, so your little fella isn't pushing against the shaved area. That ready helps.
If you decide to let it grow to a short length, i.e. 5mm-10mm you shouldn't have any problems with itching. Beard clippers are good for keeping it tidy and a set length.

    What do Women think ?
Hi there, after reading the entries and adding my thoughts, I have a question.

I am thinking of shaving my pubic hair again. It's been a long time since I did it, and this time it would be for my own pleasure. As I don't have a girlfriend at the moment.
So what do women think of men who shave, and do they think it would put some women off. Thinking of the look on their face. Would they laugh, or find it erotic?
Any women out there who will give me their honest opinion would be deeply appreciated. Hurry...

    Don't worry
The Itching will go in 2-4 days as your skin calms down. Use baby oil or if you can get Tea tree oil, that's good at calming the itch down. You might have a couple of hairs that have a reddish bump. This is where the skin has grown over the cut/shaved hair, and the hair is pushing against the skin as it grows. It will break through the skin in a couple of days, so don't panic. Within a week all the red bumps will have gone and your pubic hair should be around 2.5mm long. I know it doesn't sound a lot, but give it another week and it's half a centimetre. And so on.
I hope your itching stops soon as it sounds like your quite distressed.
Sounds like you used just any old razor too. And please tell me you didn't dry shave! If you decide to do it again, have a look at the comments, as we've spoken about different methods to get a smooth effect.

For the area to fully grow back it could take a month or more as stated depends on how fast your hair grows.
My advice is to shave every two to three days and pick a style you want to keep it

    http://www.pubicshave.com/shapyourpubh.html

    Could help with that

By starting so early you will be able to manage it better.

My girlfriend and I have explined it to her 13 year old daughter, she now shaves it all off all the time.

We are nudists and we all shave it all off.

    Hope this helps you decide

Lennox, bad news for you but I did dry shave. Well does that mean without using shaving cream. If it does then yes. I really didn't know anything about shaving down there so I just did it. And now I regret. Its been almost 4 days since I did it and the itching hasn't stopped so I don't know if your 2-4 days theory actually is true. But hopefully the itching will stop soon. How long did it take for the itching to go away for u? Or other people?

Girl: wow! That must really hurt.
I can only guess how bad it must feel!!
I would think that it must be 10x worse than if you had shaved with KY jelly or a shaving balm/gel.
You have probably scratch a lot of skin off, so you will have a lot of red bumps around the shaved area.
The best thing to do, is leave it for a week or two, so your skin recovers.
Then if you want to try it again, follow these steps, I'm sure you'll find it a much nicer experience.
Trim any long hair with scissors or clippers.
Then have a hot bath, make sure you soak for at least 10-15 minuets.
Get a brand new 2 or 3 blade razor.
Apply shaving Cream/Gel/Oil (I find KY jelly is very good as it's very slippery and water-based), so it doesn't clog up the razor.
The hairs are soft, and your skin is supple, some people run some cold water over the area, but I've never done that.
Then shave in the direction of the hair once or twice.
After that, if you want a closer shave, once against the growth of hair.
When you're happy with the shave, and it feels smooth, use your finger tips. Dab the area dry and apply Baby oil. This will help keep the moisture in and help the skin to recover.
Then twice a day apply a lotion to help the skin stay supple.
You might get a couple of red bumps, but as time goes by the skin will get use to it. After a few weeks you'll no longer get the red bumps.
Start shaving every 3-4 days, after a week or two start doing it every 2-3 days, and after 6 weeks or so, you'll be able to shave every day in the shower without having to soak in the bath/tub.

I feel for you as you've had a bad experience, but if you want to have a smooth pubic area, I'm sure you'll love it.

    It's a learning curve

I haven't tried shaving at all and I don't think I want to because I don't really think that it looks that great (doesnt look man-like) but I have tried trimming. Shaving or not is a personal decision, as for women liking or not is their decision. The past three g/f’s I had liked me that shaved the first two g/f’s didn’t each had her reasons.
Of the five g/fs four were shaved to different styles and one had never shaved. Myself I like shaved totally bare but I won’t make a gul shave if she dosn’t want too. As far as manly you decide what manly is.. when two of my buds were telling me I wuzn’t manly but heard from a couple of other guls that I was getting head from two guls I was seeing they decided to shave… choice is yours

    Hey go for it
All this talk about not being manly to shave it. What could be more manly than a cock and balls that you're looking at. Shaved or not. Anyway guyz have been shavin it since at least the ancient Greeks and Romans. Some famous Greek statues show pubes , some no pubes. I say all guys should shave it, its so much nicer for sex and looks so clean. I been shavin it for years and will never go back. And my partner likes it a lot, too.

    Shaving
I see no reason to shave or not to shave. My husband trims himself and I trim he sometimes but just shorten the hair not remove it but that is just us everyone has to figure out what they like best. We only do it because his hair is about 2 inches long and get in the way of many of the things we do.

    Trim
Im a 17 y/o male, and I just trim myself so its like 1/2 inch. My girlfriend (3 years) likes it that way. After I turned 16 we went all the way, before I trimmed the hair (she shaves) she asked me if I ever considered it. That night I trimmed it with beard scissors. She now much prefers the hair trimmed, she doesn't quite like it when I shave it all off, and it make me scratchy. I recently baught a beard trimmer from walgreens. Its got a little twisty thing to adjust the lenge to shave, so that makes it much easier. So if you don't want to shave all the way and you (or your partner) don't like the jungle try trimming it some, experiment, cause it worked for me. :D

Of corse the end decision is all up to you, if you really want to please your partner then talk to them about it.

I don't know about any one else but has not trimming the hair sometimes interfere with the condom? Like it will pull on the hair and stuff? trimming helps that, just wondering if any "junglers" have that problem?

There's nothing worse to me then going down on a girl and all you feel is hair. It tastes like and feels like . Im aight with having the hair trimmed uptop above the but the jungle has go to go, that s just nasty. Girls at least trim it, guys appreciate it, I KNOW I do.

Shaved is best, but trimmed isn't bad

    Shaving is more acceptable now
    Shaving is more acceptable now!

There's something cleaner and more aesthetic about a shaven women.
It also looks well kept, and healthy too.
And I find the female figure fascinating, and the more I can explore and gaze at it's beauty the better.
Some people think it's perverted, and wanting the women to look like a pubescent girl.
    I don't think so!
How can a 5-6-ft tall women with C cup breast look like a pubescent child.
I was talking to some friends the other night (Very drunk), and we got onto the subject.
I was told by 5 women that they shave. Jokes were banded about what style if any, and razors or creams used. For a guy, it was surprising how frankly women can talk, and how adventurous they are about something so private.
These women are all in there 30's, and what I could tell from what they were saying, most men shave or trim quite short, and women love it!

It's seems that it's getting unfashionable to have pubic hair. And for those people who are troubled with irritating rashes, very short hair is the style.
It's not just a comfort thing, but a visual thing now.
If you take a look at how many hits this particular thread gets, compare to the amount the other subjects get on this site. It shows that so many people are very concerned and interested on this subject.

I would be very interested, in what women think on this subject, and there preference, be honest !

    Basically...
Aight the bottom line is this: Shaved is in, hair is out. I think everyone should shave but then people complain about rashes and such. First of all you need to have the patience. Your shave isn't going to be perfect the 1st week. Once you get around 6 weeks it looks perfect. So stick with it and I shaved once every 3 days the 1st 2 weeks so it wouldn't be as irritated. Also put lotion and a hot wet rag over the irritated areas, it helps a lot. I can't believe guys would want to go through all that itchy and uncomfortness so there hair will grow back and irritation will go away. And then some guys think other guys will think there "less of a man" without hair. But I see it like this, I'm shaved and I'm getting sex. I could stay unshaven so I would be "more of a man" and get no sex. I choose the sex and don't give a about what other guys think of me. If there looking and they mention it there probably gay anyway. Bottom line: shave it.

    Its all good
Well. I have always been off and on about shaving my penis and area. I go through spirts. Times where I really like the hair and times where I really like no hair. BUt this is for all the guys that complain about razor burn. I got a big tip from one of my girlsfriends to use like hand cream a day before shaving, like cover the whole area your going to shave. This helps get the skin soft or something and now I don't get any more razor burn. But I think if your going to totally shave your penis and area you should shave your whole body or else it looks funny and for the girls getting a face of hair when giving us head... get used to it every women has had to deal with it for the last few thousand years.

Men shave, Do the girls do it?
I agree with pedro888, apart from the whole body thing. Unless you're really hairy.
I'm not, and I like the fine hairs that lead down my stomach. I think it's called the pathway to paradise or something like that.
It's just I don't like a bushy pubic area. Then again I do go though phases where I grow it long. 1-2 inches. At the moment it's about 1cm long. So girls like it that length?

But lets hear what the girls think.

I'm 20 year old male and I've never even really trimmed or anything till earlier today( well yesterday now since its after midnight ). I don't have a girlfriend and I probably wouldn't have trimmed it on any sort of whim or wanting to experiment. I have this itch of late... that I can't get rid of. I think it may be psoriasis (sp?)... its ing terrible... so I figured ide get rid of the jungle to see if that's one of the triggers that gets it all in need of itching.. I don't think it can be an STD seeing as I'm also a virgin.

MISTAKE. I think its probably one of the dumbest things I've done to date... was terribly irritated but its seemed to have relaxed a tiny bit in the last 6 or 7 hours. At first I was only just trimming with scissors. Lol did I yell when I accidentally cut myself.. but I got them all down to around 1cm in length and when I began to move I realised how intensly itchy and coarse they were... I absolutely could not stand it and descided to shave it completely bare with a razor. Used shaveing cream, wet towel, rinsed the razor multiple times, and then applied some polysporin.. I was a lot more cautious this time around.. no razor cuts :P in the next little bit I will be heading to the doctor I think.

To give a bit of insight on its looks... IMO I don't like how it looks completely bare. And I can't wait till I have at least a cm back.. might continue keeping it trimmed at that point. Won't let it become a jungle again.

I don't think we're... well I at least am comlaining as much as I am shareing my perspective on the topic. To do so I need to describe how I feel about it no?

Here is some sexual retaliation tho: women don't have balls moveing around and rubbing against legs and a rubbing against the balls so I think we have a bit more surface area to be irritated while moving around. Couldn't keep that from sounding much less crude then it did but I think it should get the point across. Those reasons might have something to do with why we "complain" a bit more.

    What do you think?
Hey Koolcow88, what's your opinion on men shaving?
Do you think it's odd and feminine, or do you like the look and find it erotic?

I go through phases where I'll grow it long, and find it masculine. Then shave it off. I use to keep it shaved for 4-6 weeks an find it very erotic, but now I can't wait for it to grow back, in case anyone sees it and I'll die of embarrassment.

I'm single at the moment and would like to meet a girl. But I'm concerned what they'll think about the appearance of my pubic hair or lack of it.

I'd like to hear what women think...

I workout everyday and I am very muscular but I shave that part of my body for my woman and my own pleasure. If tried it both ways before, shaved 200% better. By the way, this also eliminates any pulling hair out or getting it accidentally caught in your zipper... that would blow.
