VA disability is not taxable, nor is it considered as othet income to determine taxability of SS Disability, so you need not submit a tax return.

Can I file taxes if I received multiple year backpay from disability and am now receiving regular disability payments. Can the backpay be taxable income?

Yes, a lump sum payment of disability DOES have to be declared on an annual tax return, and it MAY be subject to income taxes, depending on your overall financial situation.

It depends on whether the disability is taxable or not.

Disability paid by an employer IS taxable, while Social Security Disability normally is NOT taxable.

Also, if you purchased a disability policy and are collecting from that policy, those payments are NOT taxable.
