What is the best anti virus software for an HP laptop
I have gone trough two HP computers all infected with viruses despite the fact I had virus protection. Was is the best anti virus protection in the market today? If there is none my next laptop is going to be a MAC since I don't see to many Mac users going over multiple laptops due to viruses ruining their computers. Please advise.

Infection has more to do with how one uses and maintains the computer than what anti-virus is installed. Running the computer day to day using an account with administrative privileges, visiting questionable websites, failing to keep the antivirus signatures up to date, failing to apply the monthly Windows Update security patches, or posting your email address on public forums to be harvested by spammers will practically guarantee a compromised machine even with antivirus installed. If you are doing any of these things, having antivirus installed will not protect the computer in the long term from infection.

I think there is no universally "best" antivirus as it depends on what features are important to you for your computing environment. Usually, detection rate and cost are most critical, however a laptop user might also want to be able to disable background scanning and other processes to preserve battery life. Decide what is important to you. For the month of March 2012, AV-Comparatives.org's Real World Protection Test has BitDefender, GData, and Kaspersky with the best protection scores. Next month the results will probably be different.
