Who Sings a Song I Heard in the movie, "Black and Blue"?
Okay, here's the story. My husband and I watched a movie called, "Black and Blue" starring Mary Stuart Masterson and Anthony LaPaglia. Anyway, towards the end of the movie there is a song playing on the radio and I'm pretty sure I've heard it before but for the life of me I can't find it anywhere on the Internet. Some of lyrics are as follows...

{beginning of song} Mmmm Girl you don't how I feel. Babe you got to know my love is real. If you are unsure and questioning, I'll give you all my love and that's how it's going to be. You are the one I need come rain or shine, just give me the time and I'll make you mine. You are the one. Girl I know you've been hurt before, somebody like you deserves more. So baby take a chance, try thinking with your heart. Come take my hand and we'll never be apart. You are the one I need come rain or shine. Just give me the time and I'll make you mine...

This is the only part of the song that is sang in the movie and I have tried searching for the verses and have had no luck. I even checked the credits at the end of the movie and there is nothing listed. If anyone recognizes the lyrics, I would be extremely thankful if you could tell me the name of the song and the artist.

    Thanks in Advance:)

Come rain or come shine by (a lot of artists). Since I haven't seen the movie, all I can do is guess that it was by BB King and Eric Clapton. Also, Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra, and Ella Fitzgerald to name a few.

Hi. Thanks guys, I went to Youtube but that is not the correct song or artist. Let me see if I can give you more to go on. I bought the movie so here are some facts as taken from the back of the DVD case...

"Based on the "Oprah Book Club" selection by Anna Quindlen, Black and Blue is a dramatic story that examines the fear and cruelty that surrounds domestic abuse. Frannie Benedetto (Mary Stuart Masterson) and her son Robert have fled their former home and move into a new neighborhood far away, adopting new identities in an effort to normalize their lives. They are fleeing from Robert's father Bobby (Anthony LaPaglia) who position as a respected, police detective prevents them from reporting his abusive nature to the authorities. But just as Frannie and Robert have managed to settle into their new community, making friends and finding hope, Robert's curiosity about his father may create an opportunity for Bobby to track down his former family and make them pay for fleeing him".

The movie came out in 1999 and I watched the ending credits but it does not mention the song nor does it say anything on the case. The lyrics that I first posted are exactly as it is sung in the movie before switching scenes. I believe it is sung by a black artist and it sounds as if it was a song that was current in the time (1997-1999). I first thought maybe the song title was, "You Are The One", because it is repeated many times but upon searching for those words, I come up with 50 million songs (figuratively speaking) with that title.

I hope this helps a little more. I will continue my search as well, thank you so much for your time in helping me find this song.

    Take care,
    Diana

I too am searching for this song, I heard it on the hallmark movie; The Note II: Taking A Chance On Love. I thought that it might be a song by Van Morrison. But, not knowing the name, I find it difficult to search the artist.

I've been looking for this song too. It's also played in the movie
'The Perfect Mother' with Tyne Daly and Ione Skye. (wedding reception scene) I'm pretty sure it's a 70s song. I have spent countless hours going through all the songs and black artists of that decade, trouble is so many of them sound the same, Boz Scaggs was the closest voice match I could find, but definitely not him. All I can think of is that maybe Hallmark/lifetime own the copyright, which would make it near impossible to find this beautiful song. Pity! If it could be purchased they would rake in a fortune! LOL!

I've been looking for this song for over a year now.Grrr. As a point of interest, it also plays in the movie 'The Perfect Mother' starring Tyne Daly and Ione Skye.(during wedding reception scene) that's where I first heard it. After months of trying to figure out who the artist is, the closest voice match I could find was Boz Scaggs, but it's definitely not him. Trouble is... so many of these artists sound similar, and of course it may be that (Hallmark/Lifetime have the copyright for the song, so if it's unreleased we may never be able to find it. What a pity! If it is ever available for sale it would make a fortune for those 2 networks.Hope somebody will eventually track it down. 'Put me on the list of people to be notified' It's one of the most beautiful songs(my opinion) I've ever heard.

Re: O'Jays, I went to iTunes & CD Universe, but the song is not there, the group does have 2 songs, by the titles 'You're The One' & 'You & Me' but they are not the ones that play in the movies mentioned(I think you're right about the group though, definitely sounds like them. This particular song is probably copyright owned by Hallmark Lifetime so would not have been released. I was looking for a song used in another movie, my son played it to one of those lyric sites and it came up as 'No Match' so this one would probably do the same. Still... it was clever of you to come up with the group name, nobody else has ever mentioned them. Thanks for trying.

I remember hearing the song "Black & Blue" a long time ago in the 40's but my research tells me it was sung by Van Helen in 1988. Regads, Tom

The song is not called 'Black And Blue' that's the name of the movie, the song plays in. as I said, I don't think anyone will be able to find it, the copyright is probably owned by Timelife & Hallmark. You can see 'heaps of people have been looking for it for years, It's a beautiful song, if you got to YouTube you can hear it played in the clip of 'Taking A Chance On Love' with Genie Francis. Maybe you can identify it??

Have an update Re: this song. I watched the movie on Youtube (would love to own it)but can't get it in Australia... anyway in the comments below clip 8/9, a poster (3 weeks ago) wrote that the song is called
"You Are The One" she stated that it was sung by Eric Clapton, but the guy singing it in the movie was Matthew Perry Jones(I think she meant Perryman Jones, in any case, I googled all 3 names, scrolled through all their songs but that title didn't come up anywhere on any of the song lists. I wonder if anyone on this board can find out more from this info?
