How do you keep pet smells out of the house?
I need some advice about which kitty litter is best to use. And how to get pet stains out of the carpet and how to keep the smells out of the house. I would also like to know, how often should you bath a ferret? I've heard some people say every week, some say every month and some say every other month.

I don't own a ferret or a cat, but maybe some of what I know about dogs will help. I don't know how to train cats and ferrets, but this paragraph from my dog material may help keep you house fresh.

Clean up accidents promptly. I mostly keep the little
Puppies out of the carpeted rooms. Still I need the can of carpet foam
Sometimes. First blot up all the urine you can with a dry towel. Keep moving
It and stepping on it until a fresh area stays dry. A couple big putty knives
Work well on bowel movements. Just slide one under it while holding it with
The other. This gets it up with a minimum of pushing it down into the carpet.
This works with even relatively soft ones, vomit, dirt from over turned house
Plants, or anything else from solids to thick liquids. Finish up with a good
Shot of carpet foam. Note, do not let the puppy lick up the carpet foam.
Once the dog is reliably housebroken, your carpet may need a good steam cleaning.

I know that bathing dogs too often often leads to skin problems. With dogs, you can almost eliminate baths by brushing frequently and limiting what they are allowed to roll in. Swims in decent water help too. My 11 year old Aster swims in the river weekly, but hasn't had a bath since coming to live with us over a year ago.

I noticed that the air coming out of the vents smelled kind of moldy, like how an old car's air comes out. I can tell because the air in the house smells a bit moldy as well. I got 5 houseplants because I read that they improve air quality, and that have quite a bit. But the moldy air still...

Water smells in new shower [ 3 Answers ]

We have installed a new shower, replacing an existing one. There was some new supply pipe installed to the shower head. When we turn on the water, hot or cold, we get a smell of petroleum, like oil or grease. The water has a slight film and a few small drops of what appears to be grease. Those...

One bathroom sink in house smells like a sewer [ 1 Answers ]

We have a 2 story home, 1 year old, crawl space, no basement. Our main level 1/2 bath is the only bathroom in the house that smells like a sewer when the water in the sink is turned on. I can usually only smell it when the water is running, and it seems to be getting worse over time. We...

Drain smells? [ 9 Answers ]

Hi, a brilliant poster in another forum of Home & Garden suggested I post here. :) We have had a random stench that comes and goes but was worse when we weren't running the a/c or heat. It seems to really linger around our bathroom and the master bedroom but can be in other places as well, sort...

Ejector Pit Smells! [ 3 Answers ]

I have an ejector pit in my basement with a shower, washer, and toilet draining into it. The top is bolted down and the pvc has snug rubber fittings where it passes through the top but the odor is still strong. Is there any thing I can do to control or reduce the odor?
