    How to take puppy temp.
I need to know how to take my pup's temperature.. I know you don't put it under your tongue but I don't want to do anything wrong down there, you know? DocWill mentioned I should take Callie's temp. because of her ear problems and I'd like to do it before tomorrow (whe I can get her to the Vet) BTW... I don't currently have an Vaseline in the house, anything else I could use? And what's the normal temp of a dog?

You can use olive oil, mineral oil, any bland oil, basically.

Shake down the thermometer and grease the last 1.5 inches, lay her down on her side and gently insert it 1.25 inches in a Maltese. Leave in for 2-3 minutes, keeping her on her side. Then pull it out, wipe off, read and clean with alcohol.

Normal is 101, plus or minus a bit.

Ky jelly is what we use at the vet's office. Make sure your thermometer is a reactal thermometer. Those have the blunt end which makes things slightly more comfortable for whose ever anal it has to go in.
