GEO Prizm 1997 - rattling when clutch not depressed.
GEO Prizm 1997 - rattling when clutch not depressed. In other words, the noise seems to come from below the motor / engine. It is mostly apparent when, while idling, I do not have the clutch depressed. When I press down and hold the clutch in place the noise (from the perspective of listening while my door is open and I am sitting behind the wheel) - the noise is gone.

    Any ideas out there?

By the way a "rookie" mechanic ;) at a Tire shop here in Florida thought that the source was a "seal?" or bushing that is in between the exhasut pipe joints. Stating that over time and aging... those go bad, break away and create the noises.

If that is the case, would I be best off replacing the entire exhaust system?

BTW I have the original system in place with over 129K miles on that engine!

Thanking you in advance for your help!

Well, yeah I would check that as well... but it could be the trans if not the pipe.
