We're replacing a 5ft tub in the "alcove" end of a small bathroom. The space is actually a few inches longer, plus or minus wallboard & tile. Plan is to butt tub to 2 walls & make a 4-5" deck at left end and also along front - both for aesthetics & easier install. Would like to tile the small strip & front deck. Tile will be drop-in. Current walls are drywall over plaster above old tile position.
So questions are:

Would it be easiest to get tub in first and build framing around it? Then lift & install tile under 2 edges? The deck would need to be higher on other 2 sides then where there's no tile.

What's the way to do walls? Haven't decided for sure, but we're leaning towards tiling the whole surround with 1" mosaic tile. Tub is Kohler 5ft Tea-for-Two which supposedly can be drop-in or "alcove" install. But we don't know how to fit the wallboard, tile & tub edge. What do we do first? Install tub with space for wallboard & tile? Seems like the "fit" could get really complicated.

And, one more thing - don't think our tile has bullnose version. Don't know what to do on the edges then!

You Need To Measure The Distance Your Tub Is From The Sub Floor To The Bottom Edge Of The Flange, With This Measurement , You Need To Add For Durock, Which Is 1/2 Plus The Tile And That Can Be 1/4 To 3/8 Just Measure Teh Tile To Be Sure.

After You Build Your Knee Wall As I Call It Along The Front And Side
Set Those First Making Sure There Are Self Supporting, On The Back Wall Just A 2x4 Nailed Into The Studs Will Do, Nail It Edge Ways Where You Have A Full 3 1/2 Against The Stud

Once You Set The Tub, Add Some Spacers Underneath The Edge Of The Tub To Lift The Tub Up Higher Than You Need To Lay The Tile.

Once You Lay The Tile And It Has Dried You Can Pull The Spacers Off And Set The Tub On The Tile, Then Mortar The Few Tiles You Have Left Where The Spacers Were And Grout.

As Far As Bull Nose You Will Need Some On The Front Edge Of The Ledge,
I Usually Set The Bullnose On Top And Let The Front Edge Of Tile Butt Up Underneath It.


If Your Tile Doesn't Have A Bull Nose , Then Find An Accent Piece That You Can Use Other Places On The Tub

Some Basic Colors Would Be White Or Bone , Biscuit, Beige, Black, Im Sure There's Others To Pick From As Well
