    Dripping water with toilet
For the past few weeks I have noticed that we have a slow drip coming from our toilet. I have checked the toilet when I hear the noise but there is no evidence of any water on the floor around the toilet. I have checked in the tank and the bowl and I don't see any water ripples showing that the water is dripping into either of those. The drip is on our onsuite bathroom so last night the noise was driving me crazy while I was trying to sleep. So I finally got up and turned off the water valve to the toilet. The tank was full of water. 8 hours later I got up and went to use that toilet and the water was all gone from the tank! What do you suggest I do or check to try to locate this problem? The toilet is only 1 year old and this dripping just started over the past few weeks.

Sounds like you have a bad flapper. If the water's leaking out oif the tank the flapper must be replaced. Let me show you how to adjust the new flapper. With the flapper seated the linkage wants to have 1/4" of play. Too much play and the flapper doesn't get pulled back enough giving you a short flush. Too tight and it lets water seep past the flapper. I adjust the chain by the link and if it needs fine tuning, I bend the flush lever rod a bit untill I have the desired play in the linkage. One more thing about a flapper. you will see where the old flapper hooks onto the base of the white overflow tube. On a older type with no hooks the flapper has a ring that slips down over the overflow tube to the seat. If your tank has hooks, take a sharp knife or scissors and cut the neoprene ring off on the marks provided and hook the flapper on the hooks. Leaving the ring on will interfere with the flush. The water level in your tank should be 3/8 to 1/2" below the top of the overflow tube when the tank's filled. Good luck, Tom

Cold water is just dripping... why? [ 1 Answers ]

We've lived in our slab ranch for 15 years. Over the past 7 or so years, we've noticed a slow in cold water pressure, to the point that right now it's just dripping out of the washer (it takes me 1:15 to wash one load in cold) and we're almost being scalded when we shower. Any ideas?
