This can't be a heat pump with only 5 wires, are you sure this isn't just straight A/C?

How many wires are coming out of the wall, and what color are they? What terminals do you have on the new thermostat?

Ok, let me get this right... You installed a new system with a heat pump, correct? And you are trying to install a new heat pump stat? And from the wall you have 7 wires, correct? First tell me what terminals you have on the new T-stat. Has someone already wired the new outdoor unit and furnace?

Ok, well if you have a heat pump the new thermostat will not work, you have to use a heat pump thermostat.
You will need to purchase a heat pump thermostat, let me know what type you buy and I'll walk you through hooking it up.
